ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΜΕΤΑΦΡΑΣΗ ΑΚΟΛΟΥΘΕΙ ΣΤΟ ΤΕΛΟΣ ΤΗΣ ΑΝΑΡΤΗΣΗΣ

Our readers were not at all surprised at the announcement of the hiring of Archmandite Fr. Nektarios Papazafiropoulos as the new Chancellor for GOA (Fr. Andreas Vithoulkas will be in charge of St.Nicholas at Ground Zero), as the rumors were quite widespread for quite a few months. The Archbishop, for one more time (since hiring Karloutsos as a Vicar the day after his enthronement and after committing some form of “malpractice” or “misstep” on average once a month) proved to all of us that he truly deserves the nickname “Elpidoktonos” / “The Hope Killer”… How else to describe someone who at a fairly young age (at his early 50s) comes to America, this great land of freedom and meritocracy (at least until …recently) and acts in almost every step as an assistant …Vizier of the “Sublime Porte of the Sultan”? And he is making most decisions with no consideration for the merits and the well-being and advancement of the interests of the Church, he is supposed to lead?
We invite the Archbishop to explain to the faithful what truly might have been the qualifications and the great “accomplishments” that warranted Fr. Nektarios promotion to such an important and powerful position. There are none… And there is no “rational” explanation for his hiring and here is why:
It’s common knowledge that Fr. Nektarios during the 11 years of his tenure in Astoria was the main culprit for the reduction of the populous and wealthy parish to a shadow of its former self. During these 11 catastrophic years, the parish lost so many members and so much attendance that the total proceeds from the trays in its two Churches every Sunday rarely exceed a few hundred dollars… Such a disaster would never happen if Astoria was led by a competent, likable, sociable, and hard-working priest. One of Fr. Nektarios’ main concerns in designing the ill-fated building across St.Demetrios was to create a small apartment for himself so that he can take a mid-day nap (a siesta) and avoid the 15-minute commute to his house…
This fact alone should tell you everything you need to know about him… Driven by arrogance, as he moves to his new position on March 1st, he leaves behind a pile of rubble: His “pet project” referred to above has already a budget that skyrocketed to over $8 million – and the inept and unsociable Fr. Nektarios has done almost nothing for fundraising. What does he expect? He does not worry a bit: He will follow the “grand plans” of “others” in GOARCH and he will put a mortgage on the Church properties (valued at over $160 million!!)
But the biggest problem is that the faithful (and we have many thousands of Greek and other Orthodox living nearby) have lost their trust in the local and general leadership and they do not plan to return. The new parish council to be elected tomorrow will have a very difficult task and AB Elpidoktonos will not assist them in any way… They should at least have a say on who the next priest will be, but nobody bothers to get them involved. If there is a chance to avoid a complete disaster, Astoria will need a very-well qualified and spiritual married priest: The parish was literally destroyed by the ambitious but empty and vain “Archmandrites”, first Apostolos (now in NJ) and then Nektarios…
In his new position Fr. Nektarios will be assisted by his brother Fr. Panagiotis, who is already at the headquarters (chief of staff for the Archbishop)… Did anybody bother to read the GOARCH Regulations regarding “Conflicts of Interest”? Please take a look at the 2017 Regulations page 43 and after, and try to think for yourselves in how many ways the two brothers’ personal interests can be in conflict with the Archdiocese’s… Amazing the hubris in AB Elpidoktonos’ decision… Well, a lawsuit or a report to the AG’s office could knock down this scheme and teach all of them a lesson…
But our bigger problem is that all these inappropriate decisions and actions are emulating behaviors – if not direct orders – that come from “above”. This fish always stinks from the head – and the Phanar is a very “stinky fish”… Pat. Bartholomew, as we all have seen, leads by example: In the case of Met. Emmanuel (formerly of France), the Patriarch promoted the corrupt and the unethical; in the case of Ukraine’s autocephaly he practices corruption himself; and in his many trips to America he rarely – if ever – visited a hospital… He wants to be seen and treated like a Pope – but when Pope Francis visits any place he never forgets his position and his first stop is at a hospital, a school, a poor people’s house, or any other such establishment. With a “leader” like Pat. Bartholomew, we cannot expect anything better…
Then, we can all use our imagination and try to explain why Fr. Nektarios’ promotion took place… Go ahead my friends, you will not have to try too hard – it’s easier than you think…

Ένα ακόμη λάθος του Αρχ. Ελπιδοκτόνου: Πρόσληψη του εντελώς ανίκανου π. Νεκτάριου ως Πρωτοσύγγελου…

Οι αναγνώστες μας δεν εξεπλάγησαν καθόλου με την ανακοίνωση της πρόσληψης του Αρχιμανδρίτη Νεκτάριου Παπαζαφειρόπουλου ως νέου Πρωτοσύγγελου της Αρχιεπισκοπής (ο π. Ανδρέας Βυθούλκας θα αναλάβει τον Άγιο Νικόλαο στο Ground Zero), καθώς οι φήμες ήταν αρκετά διαδεδομένες εδώ και αρκετούς μήνες. Ο Αρχιεπίσκοπος, για άλλη μια φορά (από τότε που προσέλαβε τον Καρλούτσο ως Vicar General την επομένη της ενθρόνισής του και αφού διέπραξε κάποιου είδους «λάθος» κατά μέσο όρο μια φορά το μήνα) απέδειξε σε όλους μας ότι πραγματικά του αξίζει το παρατσούκλι “Ελπιδoκτόνος”… Πώς αλλιώς να περιγράψεις κάποιον που σε αρκετά νεαρή ηλικία (στα 50 του χρόνια) έρχεται στην Αμερική, αυτή τη μεγάλη χώρα της ελευθερίας και της αξιοκρατίας (τουλάχιστον μέχρι …πρόσφατα) και δρα σχεδόν σε κάθε βήμα ως βοηθός …Βεζίρης της «Υψηλής Πύλης του Σουλτάνου»; Και παίρνει τις περισσότερες αποφάσεις χωρίς να σκέφτεται ορθολογιστικά και αξιοκρατικά και λαβαίνοντας υπόψη την ευημερία και την προώθηση των συμφερόντων της Εκκλησίας, υποτίθεται ότι ηγείται;
Καλούμε τον Αρχιεπίσκοπο να εξηγήσει στους πιστούς ποια πραγματικά θα μπορούσαν να ήταν τα προσόντα και τα μεγάλα «κατορθώματα» που δικαιολογούσαν την προαγωγή του π. Νεκταρίου σε μια τόσο σημαντική θέση. Δεν υπάρχουν… Και δεν υπάρχει «λογική» εξήγηση για την πρόσληψή του και ιδού γιατί:
Είναι γνωστό ότι ο π. Νεκτάριος στα 11 χρόνια της θητείας του στην Αστόρια ήταν ο κύριος υπαίτιος για τη μετατροπή της πολυπληθούς και πλούσιας ενορίας σε σκιά του πρώην εαυτού της. Κατά τη διάρκεια αυτών των 11 καταστροφικών ετών, η ενορία έχασε τόσα πολλά μέλη και τόση προσέλευση που τα συνολικά έσοδα από τους δίσκους και στις δύο Εκκλησίες της κάθε Κυριακή σπάνια ξεπερνούν συνολικά τις μερικές εκατοντάδες δολάρια… Τέτοια καταστροφή δεν θα γινόταν ποτέ αν η Αστόρια καθοδηγούνταν από έναν ικανό, συμπαθή, κοινωνικό και εργατικό ιερέα. Η κύρια ανησυχία του π. Νεκτάριου στο σχεδιασμό του κακορίζικου κτιρίου απέναντι από τον Άγιο Δημήτριο ήταν να δημιουργήσει ένα μικρό διαμέρισμα για τον εαυτό του, ώστε να μπορεί να παίρνει έναν μεσημεριανό υπνάκο (σιέστα) και να αποφεύγει τη μετακίνηση των 15 λεπτών στο σπίτι του…
Αυτό το γεγονός από μόνο του καταμαρτυρά όλα όσα πρέπει να ξέρετε για αυτόν… Οδηγημένος από αλαζονεία, καθώς μετακομίζει στη νέα του θέση την 1η Μαρτίου, αφήνει πίσω του ένα σωρό ερείπια: Το «αγαπημένο του έργο» που αναφέρεται παραπάνω έχει ήδη προϋπολογισμό που ξεπέρασε τα 8 εκατομμύρια δολάρια – και ο ανίκανος και ακοινώνητος π. Νεκτάριος δεν έχει κάνει σχεδόν μαζέψει παρά ελάχιστα από τον έρανο. Τι περιμένει; Δεν ανησυχεί καθόλου: Θα ακολουθήσει τα «μεγάλα σχέδια» των «άλλων» στην Αρχιεπισκοπή και θα βάλει υποθήκη στα ακίνητα της Εκκλησίας (αξίας άνω των 160 εκατομμυρίων δολαρίων!!)
Αλλά το μεγαλύτερο πρόβλημα είναι ότι οι πιστοί (και έχουμε πολλές χιλιάδες Έλληνες και άλλους Ορθόδοξους που ζουν γύρω από την Αστόρια) έχουν χάσει την εμπιστοσύνη τους στην τοπική και γενική ηγεσία της Εκκλησίας και δεν σκοπεύουν να επιστρέψουν. Το νέο ενοριακό συμβούλιο που θα εκλεγεί αύριο θα έχει πολύ δύσκολο έργο και ο Αρχ. Ελπιδοκτόνος δεν καίγεται καθόλου να τους βοηθήσει… Θα έπρεπε τουλάχιστον να έχουν γνώμη για το ποιος θα είναι ο επόμενος ιερέας, αλλά κανείς δεν μπαίνει στον κόπο να τους ενημερώσει και να τους εμπλέξει. Αν υπάρχει περίπτωση να αποφευχθεί μια πλήρης καταστροφή, η Αστόρια θα χρειαστεί έναν πολύ καλά καταρτισμένο και πνευματικό – παντρεμένο – ιερέα: Η ενορία κυριολεκτικά καταστράφηκε από τους φιλόδοξους αλλά άδειους και ματαιόδοξους «Αρχιμανδρίτες», πρώτα τον Απόστολο (τώρα στη Νέα Υερσέη) και μετά τον Νεκτάριο. …
Στη νέα του θέση τον π. Νεκτάριο θα βοηθά ο αδελφός του π. Ο Παναγιώτης, που είναι ήδη στην έδρα (επιτελάρχης του Αρχιεπισκόπου)… Μπήκε κανείς στον κόπο να διαβάσει τον Κανονισμό GOARCH σχετικά με τις «Συγκρούσεις Συμφερόντων»; Ρίξτε μια ματιά στους Κανονισμούς του 2017, σελίδα 43 και μετά (2017 Regulations), και προσπαθήστε να σκεφτείτε μόνοι σας με πόσους τρόπους μπορεί να συγκρούονται τα προσωπικά συμφέροντα των δύο αδελφών με τα συμφέροντα της Αρχιεπισκοπής… Καταπληκτική η ύβρις στην απόφαση του Αρχ. Ελπιδοκτόνου… Λοιπόν, μια μήνυση ή μια αναφορά στο γραφείο του Εισαγγελέα θα μπορούσε να καταρρίψει αυτό το σχέδιο και να δώσει ένα μάθημα σε όλους…
Αλλά το μεγαλύτερο πρόβλημά μας είναι ότι όλες αυτές οι ακατάλληλες αποφάσεις και ενέργειες μιμούνται συμπεριφορές – αν όχι άμεσες εντολές – που προέρχονται από «πάνω». Το ψάρι βρωμάει πάντα από το κεφάλι – και το Φανάρι είναι πολύ «βρωμερό ψάρι»… Ο Πατ. Βαρθολομαίος, όπως όλοι είδαμε, δίνει το παράδειγμα: Στην περίπτωση του Μητ. Εμμανουήλ (πρώην Γαλλίας), ο Πατριάρχης προώθησε τους διεφθαρμένους και τους ανήθικους. Στην περίπτωση της αυτοκεφαλίας της Ουκρανίας ασκεί ο ίδιος τη διαφθορά. Και στα πολλά ταξίδια του στην Αμερική σπάνια – αν όχι ποτέ- επισκεπτόταν ένα νοσοκομείο… Θέλει να τον βλέπουν και να του φέρονται σαν Πάπα – αλλά όταν ο Πάπας Φραγκίσκος επισκέπτεται οποιοδήποτε μέρος δεν ξεχνά ποτέ τη θέση του και η πρώτη του στάση είναι στα νοσοκομεία, τα σχολεία, τα πτωχοκομεία, ή οποιοδήποτε τέτοιο ίδρυμα. Με έναν «ηγέτη» σαν τον Πατ. Βαρθολομαίο, δεν μπορούμε να περιμένουμε κάτι καλύτερο…
Επομένως, μπορούμε όλοι να χρησιμοποιήσουμε τη φαντασία μας και να προσπαθήσουμε να εξηγήσουμε γιατί έγινε η προώθηση του π. Νεκτάριου… Προχωρήστε φίλοι μου, δεν θα χρειαστεί να προσπαθήσετε πολύ – είναι πιο εύκολο από όσο νομίζετε…

Ελπιδοφόρος. Νέος , ομιλεί πεντε έξη γλώσσες, Έλληνας της Πόλης, μεγαλωμένος από αγροτική , φτωχική οικογένεια. Θεολογικές σχολές δεξιά και αριστερά, τίτλοι και δεν συμμαζεύεται. Μόνο από την επικεφαλίδα της ζωής του , οι Έλληνες της Αμερικής, θα περίμεναν απείρως περισοτερο. Ένα πνευματικό ηγέτη που θα ξανακτίζε την υπό διάλυση Αρχιεπισκοπή, και θα αναγεννούσε τις ετοιμοθάνατες κοινότητες. Που θα εφάρμοζε την διαφάνεια και την αξιοκρατία. Που στις μέρες του θα βλέπαμε πνευματική ζωή. Που οι νέοι θα γυρνούσαν πίσω στην εκκλησια. Την άλλη μέρα ξυπνήσαμε … Όνειρο ήταν .. Πολλα θα μπορούσε να γράψει κανεις για τα έργα και ημέρες του π. Νεκτάριου στην Αστορια. Όσοι είχαν την ατυχία να περάσουν από το γραφείο του , θαύμασαν την οξυδέρκεια του . Το πνεύμα του . Και την άμεση αντιμετώπιση του προβλήματος τους…. Ακόμη περιμένουν. Πολλοί είχαν την εντύπωση ότι μιλούσαν στον .. τοιχο. Ανακατευόταν σε όλα και δεν έφταιγε ποτέ για τίποτε. Άδειασε τις εκκλησίες με τα άληστου μνήμης ( αξέχαστα), κηρύγματα του , και την αντικοινωνικότητα του. Το υπέρμετρο εγώ του δεν άφηνε τους αδελφούς του κληρικούς , να ανθίσουν και αυτοί μέσα στην κοινότητα. Όλα να περνάνε από αυτόν και αυτός να μην κάνει τίποτε. Το χειρότερο όμως από όλα η προσπάθεια του να διοικήσει και να βάλει κάτω από τον έλεγχο του το σχολείο. Κατάστροφη, μη αναστρεψιμη. Αυτόν τον ικανότατο κληρικό διαλεξε( διαλεξε;;) ο Ελπιδοφόρος για πρωτοσύγκελο. Βοήθεια του , και βοήθεια μας, γιατί εμεις τουλάχιστον θα προσπαθήσουμε να αναστηλωσουμε τα ερείπια μας.Η μεγάλη επιτυχία της Χαρις Αλεξιου(( Φεύγω και αφήνω πίσω μου συντρίμμια.. )), είναι πιο επίκαιρη από ποτέ!!!!!

Το θέμα Νίκο είναι πολύ απλό. Έτσι όπως έχουν
τα πράγματα που επικρατεί μια αβεβαιότητα για
το μέλλον της Εκκλησίας μας στο συνολό της
( εννοώ εδώ στη Αμερική) , ποιός επιτυχημένος
κληρικός θα εγκατέλειπε την κοινότητά του και
να γίνει έρμαιο της Πόλης….και της Νέας Υόρκης;
οικειοθελώς κανένας. Ύστερα ο προκαθήμενος δεν επιθυμεί να έχει έναν άλλο Καρλούτσο και να
το παίζει Αρχιεπίσκοπος…..
Η επιλογή του για τον συγκεκριμένο κληρικό μου
θυμίζει έναν Χιώτη ( Καρδαμυλήτη ) καπετάνιο,
ο οποίος τηλεφωνούσε στο γραφείο της εταιρείας
και ζητούσε να του στείλουν Υποπλοίαρχο για να
αντικαταστήσει αυτόν που έφευγε και τους έλεγε,
να μου στείλετε έναν καλόν , αλλά να μην είναι
πολύ καλός ……τώρα γιατί έθετε αυτόν τον όρον;,
η φράση: “ Τα ευκόλως εννοούμενα παραλείπονται”. τα εξηγεί όλα.
Τα πάντα πλέον είναι στα χέρια του Θεού, οψόμεθα.

Church “Institutionalism” is an invention of men and has nothing to do with God! Many poor souls have yet to LEARN this truth as they continue to be bombarded and brainwashed by the system and its shenanigans.
I am happy for Father Andrew….I know him to be a very nice man and a loving priest. I pray he hasn’t drank the koolaid. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

big mistake when he was leaving Brookville church , now is too late.
Indeed, pray for Fr. Andreas he doesn’t get contaminated by gangsters of GOA & will talk on Lord Jesus –
Imagine that? A church that talks on gospel of Jesus Christ?
Pray once he heads Saint Nicholas shrine he won’t be pressured to yap about money, money, money.
The educational “levels” of past archdiocese’ employees was always dismal… They were however, paid well to perform tasks -without college degrees.
I was stunned that many years ago, the heads of accountancy both held no college experience, let alone degrees!
As a group, we are highly educated–yet, this was not the case with those employed there!
Sir G. — N. Y. C. is so crime-ridden; between car-jackings and subway muggings; surely, attendance will be down at the Shrine. Forward-thinking, intelligent minds could arrange bussing folks in from outside GOARCH Parishes on tours-at 20 bucks a head… Just thinking aloud that no “koutsi marias’ ” would attempt going here; they need to figure out a way to maintain a steady-stream of revenues. This city is descending down the tubes— Shrine would have thrived $$$ had it been erected shortly after 9/11 under the sane Guiliani/Bloomberg regimes!
Αλήθεια, πως θα συνεργαστεί ο καινούργιος πρωτοσύγκελος , σε διπλανά γραφεία με κάποιον που επί δέκα χρόνια τρώγονταν σαν τον σκύλο με την γάτα;; Με κάποιον που του έκανε μήνυση και σε αυτόν και στην κοινότητα;;; Με κάποιον που αντάλλασσαν φιλοφρονήσεις στα γαλλικά;;;; Γαργάρα που έχει να πέσει……. Άλλωστε κάνει καλό και στον λαιμό!!!
Replying to Larissa education has to do a lot but above all is the character of the person and his faithfulness to Jesus Christ and his church.
The famous Ioannis Makriyiannis was not educated at all but he save
Greece and our Orthodox faith. The Vavarian ( Barbarian ) King Othon
was pushing the Katholic faith to be written in our constitution as the only
faith for the Hellenes but broke his face , Makriyiannis stood up with
strong resistance.
Today only a few people are fully educated most of them have no cyclopedic
education. Back in the 50s the high school of Greece was better than the
American universities. Today education is globally directional .
I respectfully submit that -my argument was not “educational levels on a broad scope”-more on the narrow scope of lacking a degree in accounting/business/finance when placed in that role/responsibility. We’re talking about 40 years ago– when a degree was worth the paper it was printed on. I can assure you these employees were not graduates of excellent secondary “gymnasion”- Greece. As far as devotion to their character via faithfulness to our Christ—-if “gossip”–“fake news” and maligning others with falsehoods and lies has anything to do with character formation; they had it in spades!
The community is in shambles no spirituality, no ministries, no philanthropic initiatives! Nothing but greed consumed Fr Nektarios, and he, as the spiritual leader interjected himself in the financial management of the school. His interests were purely to ensure the school was profitable enough to sustain the church and his paid position for the past 11 years.
He continues to retain individuals on the the parish council who he knows will not go against him, or his multiple agendas. He looked the “other way” and “rationalized” so many wrong doings all these years and we clearly see that things were never black and white. He always operated in the “gray” area and never failed to blame others in order to deflect the attention from himself. He had his own bylaws he abided by! At this point we can blame him for the demise of the Astoria community, however, the parish is also to blame for not uniting to request his transfer out of the community in order to minimize the losses and mitigate the damage done. The parish counsel is accountable as well, right? Ideally the parish is there to protect the community, and support the clergy. The understanding is that you support the priest regardless of any opinions or conflicts you may have with him or his policies. At the end of the day you serve at the pleasure of the Proistameno and Archbishop despite being elected by the community! If people actually understood what this meant I bet few would serve, or I should say people should not continue to serve! Why? Because your opinion at the end of the day does not matter to the Proistameno or the Archbishop. Their agendas are preset and will supersede any opinions or suggestions of any parish council members whether the communities like it or not.
Bottom line is the the parish council was set up as a form of “artificial”governance of communities! You are lead to believe you are serving the community, and that you have a voice because you have been “elected” by the community, but ultimately all you are doing is volunteering your time to make money for the church’s Proistameno and Archdiocese who can also relieve you of your duties at any given moment for any reason or no reason!! If you become too vocal they will find away to shut you up or throw you out! They will use “conflict of interest” as a reason when it suits them, or “ inappropriate behavior”, or refer to your community bylaws or UPR for a reason to remove you! Many PC members know of this type of retaliation and will not speak against any thing out of fear of being removed by the Proistameno or Archbishop. This said, at the end of the day what is the point of serving? The PC is the ideal structure for a community. You convince individuals/parishioners to volunteer their time for free, you persuade them to submit their candidacy for election. They become elected they suddenly feel prestigious and powerful in the community and they end up devoting a lifetime of free service as long as they do not speak, and, remain very politically correct. Does not get any better then that! The Archdiocese mandates we obey them and pay the annual dues of $160,000 and yet as a community we have no voice!! Which is why I say it is a form of “fake” governance! The reality and the perception are two very different things!
Last year the community suffered a great loss when Fr. Vasili was appointed to serve Zoodoxou Pygi in the Bronx. The interpretation of Zoodoxou Pygi is “Life giving spring”. This interpretation compliments Fr. Vasili as this is how he was perceived by the Astoria parishioners. Had we known Fr. Nektarios was going to leave to become an overlord at the Archdiocese we could have fought to keep Fr. Vasili who was also followed by at least 100 parishioners from Astoria to his new parish in the Bronx!
In narrowing the scope on a technological level, you’d have to agree that an Accounting Degree would have served the administration better than it did forty years ago!
Educated clergymen??
Look at majority of great Saints!
Most monastic or a few married Saints had little to no education but thru spiritual devotion and asceticism they reached the prize of Theosis and rose to brilliance!
Saint Porphyrios could run circles around PhD scientists that left heads spinning and
St. Paisios only had 5th grade education, yet had statemen, presidents making pilgrimage just for his blessing. Even Pope tried to get him to visit but both Porphyrios and Paisios refused.
Also Mother Gavrilia of Greece, never went to Divinity school — yet for 10 years she had disciples visiting her apartment in Greece changing their lives; she was born aristocrat, yet gave up all wealth to join the Orthodox angelic life.

to these extraordinary and pure souls, they make Greek Orthodoxy proud — unlike the material greedy bad actors of corporate office!
I am only talking about the bad staff— non-clergy– back-stabbling uneducated staff of 40 years ago!
People who allege to profess education -should, in fact be educated— that is all that should be– but it was allegedly not— let’s see who’ll be hired
Professing an alleged level of professionalism was just not done; the good news is the staff now is allegedly educated in their respective fields.
