EDITOR’S NOTE (Nick Stamatakis): I happened to watch again Eddie Murphy’s “Raw” last weekend (made in 1987) and was amazed at how much America has changed in the last four decades… It is very sad to see that because of the “woke” politics, this society cannot tolerate real jokes anymore… The definition of a joke is to turn something upside down and question its meaning while poking fun at the person, thing, or situation… But not anymore, because the woke Left will object to “insulting”, or “hurting the feelings” of someone…

I remember the first paper I ever wrote in the social sciences was related to the social function of “Nicknames” in Greek local societies, in villages and islands… (Maybe this study helped me name Karloutsos the “Prince of Darkness” and the Archbishop “Elpidoktonos”…) The bottom line is that “nicknaming” in the sense of making fun of someone (another example is the nicknames given by Donald Trump), has a social effect, a necessary element of restricting social actors when they cross the prescribed limits of their “roles” set by society… When they commit “hubris” in other words…

  1. Well Eddie Murphy made jokes about gays and later outed as bisexual – strange dude hiding secret double life in jokes?
But this Woke madness is ruining comedy of yesteryear.
