Metropolitan Symeon Against Gay Marriage and Adoption: “Yes, We Are Conservative!!”

“Leave aside the “Americanisms”! Here is Greece! They came up with (novel) theories, no one dares to say a word, and they are labeled “homophobic”… Where did you find that, huh? Where did you find it?

EDITOR’S NOTE (Nick Stamatakis).  Metropolitan Simeon of Fthiotis (Central Greece) is an outspoken leader of the Church of Greece, said to be among the few who are ready to succeed AB Ieronymos.  A few days ago, right after the Church of Greece ultimately rejected any support for gay marriage and adoption, he took the lead and reminded all of us of the late AB Christodoulos… With a fiery speech that became viral and galvanized all Orthodox people in Greece and beyond, he put the “progressives” in their rightful place – in the marginal far left where they belong… In the minority of politics and society…

The dynamism in the speech of the Metropolitan of Fthiotis was essentially an outburst in favor of the family and traditions and the cohesive role of the Church in society. Symeon said in a firm tone what AB Ieronymos was afraid to say, that “we do not reject anyone, we respect everyone, but we also demand that they respect us. And don’t make fun of us. We demand that they respect us.”

HERE IS HIS BIOGRAPHY: Met. Symeon (born Ioannis Voliotis in 1977 in Kozani) studied Law and Theology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He continued as a PhD candidate in the History of Philosophy and did a master’s degree at the same University. In 2011, he joined the staff of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens. He was ordained an elder by the Archbishop of Athens, Ieronymos. On June 25, 2014, he was appointed by the Archbishop and the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece Chancellor and general director of the administrative services of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens. On October 11, 2019, he was elected Metropolitan of Fthiotidos with 62 votes out of a total of 79.

ΒΑΣΙΚΑ ΣΗΜΕΙΑ ΤΗΣ ΟΜΙΛΙΑΣ ΤΟΥ ΜΗΤ. ΣΥΜΕΩΝ

Είπε, μεταξύ άλλων, ο μητροπολίτης Φθιώτιδος:

• «Πιστεύουμε στην παραδοσιακή ελληνική ορθόδοξη οικογένεια, όπως τη μάθαμε κι όπως είναι κι όπως θα είναι. Οπως θέλει η ίδια η ζωή, η ίδια η φύση, ο τρόπος με τον οποίο ερχόμαστε στον κόσμο. Κάποιος πατέρας και κάποια μάνα αγαπήθηκαν για να έρθουμε εμείς πάνω στον κόσμο».
• «Σ’ αυτή την οικογένεια πιστεύουμε, αυτή την οικογένεια στηρίζουμε, κι αν κάποιος μας θεωρεί συντηρητικούς, ε, ναι, τέτοια συντήρηση τη θέλουμε. Ναι, είμαστε συντηρητικοί, ρε! Τι θέλεις; Να χαίρεσαι την πρόοδό σου, το σκοτάδι της προόδου σου!»
• «Είμαστε συντηρητικοί και θα μείνουμε συντηρητικοί. Ναι, θέλουμε να είμαστε συντηρητικοί. Αμα σου αρέσει κι άμα σου κάνει. Θα στηρίζουμε αυτή την οικογένεια, αγαπώντας κάθε άνθρωπο, χωρίς εξαιρέσεις».
• «Δεν απορρίπτουμε κανέναν. Σεβόμαστε τους πάντες, αλλά απαιτούμε και να μας σέβονται. Και να μη μας κοροϊδεύουν. Φτάνει πια! Εως εδώ. Εως εδώ πια! Απαιτούμε να μας σέβονται. Να σέβονται τον πατέρα μας και τη μάνα μας, τα μνήματα των γονέων μας».
• «Να αφήσουν τις αμερικανιές! Ελλάδα είναι εδώ. Βρήκαμε θεωρίες, δεν τολμά να πει κανείς μια κουβέντα, “ομοφοβικός”… Πού το βρήκατε, ρε; Πού το βρήκατε; Αμάν πια, μας έχετε τυφλώσει με την ψευτοπρόοδό σας! Είδαμε πού οδηγείται η ανθρωπότητα».
• «Θα μείνουμε όρθιοι, αγαπημένοι κι ενωμένοι, παραδοσιακοί, προοδευτικοί, συντηρητικοί, Ελληνες αισιόδοξοι, με ελπίδα και με δύναμη. Μην πτοείστε. Χρόνια πολλά κι ευλογημένα».
