The International Gay Games Federation announced today that the bidding process for the 2030 Games has closed, with the city of Athens being among the cities that expressed interest.
A total of 25 cities from six continents submitted their interest in the 13th Games involving the LGBTQIA+ community around the world.
The games are attended by 10,000 members of the LGBTQIA+ community and according to the world federation, the games hosted in Paris had left an economic benefit of €107 million to the French capital.
The other 24 cities that have expressed interest along with Athens are Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth from Australia, Sao Paulo from Brazil, Edmonton and Vancouver from Canada, Frankfurt (Germany), Auckland (New Zealand), Cape Town and Johannesburg (South Africa), Taipei (Taiwan), Liverpool and London (UK), Atlanta, Birmingham. Boston, Denver, Honolulu, Honolulu, Miami, Minneapolis, Oak Creek, San Antonio and Seattle (USA).
In March 2024, the 25 cities will have to send a full bid dossier, including the sports they want to host at the Games, how they will be funded, what the organizing committee will be, and the infrastructure of the cities to welcome thousands of athletes, athletes, chaperones and visitors.
