By Nick Stamatakis

In one more misstep, one more heresy, AB Elpidophoros (through Father Villis), during the Liturgy before the Greek Independence Parade in NYC, asked SYRIZA leader Stephanos Kasselakis to read the “Creed Of Faith” in English and make a mockery of the Orthodox Faith, as his husband (or wife? – let Elpidophoros answer this question) Tyler Macbeth was sitting in the pews nearby.  AB Elpidophoros proves me correct almost weekly and justifies the nickname Elpidoktonos (Hope-killer), which I gave him a few days after his election in 2019.  One week, we are dealing with his Turkish intelligence or Turkish Foreign ministry ties, undermining the role of the Greek-American community; the next, with his various heresies undermining Orthodoxy – too many to catalog here, but the promotion of homosexuality tops the list. In the third week, we have to deal with his visit to the American intelligence university and his “Deep State” ties. And so on…

Elpidoktonos is now a known quantity, and many have analyzed him in depth. But Kasselakis has made big news in the last few days.  Since when was he a faithful Orthodox, able to read the Creed of Faith?  Yes, he was probably baptized when he was born in Greece. But am I going to be surprised if he is not? No! In the high-class northern suburbs of Athens, where he grew up in the 1990s and the private school he attended with other privileged kids, going to Church every Sunday was not in fashion, to put it mildly. By 2002, at age 14, gifted as he was in math, he got a scholarship and left for the Philips Academy in Massachusetts – and left his family’s problems behind.  Then comes Wharton College, Goldman Sachs, and some political gigs with the Biden campaign, and finally, he established his own business.  I must have read several biographies of him and as many interviews, but nowhere did I see him expressing any connection with religion except (if I recall correctly) when he recounted ONCE how his yiayia made him say a prayer at night a few times when he was four or five!… Nowhere else!

Now, suddenly and very opportunistically (like everything else in his life – he is known to have been back and forth between “Reaganite” right and light left all his life – even recently) introduces his anti-Orthodox public figure ιn the Church at the time of the same-sex marriage legislation.  “I am an Orthodox Christian,” he declared on March 14 suddenly.  “I do not need anybody’s permit to enter the Church!”.  He fought on the side of corrupt (morally and otherwise) Mitsotakis, and not only did he help pass the bill AGAINST THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE (is this following his “democratic,” “leftist” principles?) but also “dares” the Metropolitan of Corfu to ban him from the Church, to receive the correct answer (link here).

Kasselakis is not an Orthodox Christian.  If he were, the first thing he would recognize would be that he is a sinner, and as a sinner, he would enter the Church to seek salvation.  But he is very far from any concept of Orthodox faith, and so is Archbishop Elpidoktonos, who allowed him to desecrate what we hold sacred and holy. Kasselakis entered the Cathedral as a rightful homosexual and read the “Creed,” pissing all over our faith, and Elpidoktonos not only allowed it but encouraged the desecration. He did not have to invite him to read the “Creed”.  But like all the rest of the “Gang of Istanbul” (and like the rest of the Western leaders), he thinks he is more powerful than the “Eye Of Justice” looking from above… Bartholomew played deaf from afar… After the Church, Kasselakis went to the parade and stood next to Elpidophoros for about twenty minutes, as shown in the photos below.

For fifteen of these twenty minutes (in three of the four of our photos), he had his back turned to the parading groups!! The Archbishop and all others are looking forward, while Kasselakis disrespectfully turns his back (talking and shaking hands at the Grand Stand)!! I have to say that the parading Greeks also ignored him, so it was pretty appropriate in the end!

But his ridiculing of Orthodoxy pales in front of what he did to the ideology of the Left. “NATO is a Holy, Defensive Alliance,” he said on April 5 during a radio interview (link here).  I grew up in Greece as a leftist teenager (by age 19-20, I was done with the fallacies), and I can tell you that the dead fathers of the Greek Left, from Harilaos Florakis to Ilias Iliou to Leonidas Kyrkos and Andreas Papandreou will be turning collectively in their graves!! Comparatively speaking, this is a bigger desecration of the leftist ideology and practice than what he did to Orthodoxy! But such are the times we live in, and words have lost meaning.  Kasselakis is a perfect product of our chaotic times.  If we are lucky enough to avoid the nuclear catastrophe the evil globalists are planning, Kasselakis will disappear, “pouf”, in one moment not too far away…

To underline all the above, his official visit to the US includes a visit to the Center of Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), his old “hangout”, the most warmongering think tank of all the think tanks in DC. Even if you know nothing about Kasselakis, the initials CSIS are all you need to know – especially when the question is, “Who finances him.” He likes to pretend that he spends his own money, but no sane businessman in his right mind would do what he has already done without backing from the Globalists.  From Ukraine to Israel to the LGBTQ agenda and everything in between, his positions are not simply identical with Mitsotakis but with Emmanuel Macron, Scholtz, and all the rest of the puppets in Europe.

His meteoric rise to the leadership of the biggest party of the Greek left proved to be a manufactured operation by DC centers, tragically with the help of Alexis Tsipras, who spent a few months in the US during 2023 before introducing Kasselakis to Greek politics. Tsipras, looking at the monster he has helped create, is now trying to revamp his image with the help of international communication experts – in vain.  The damage is done and the Greek Left is well on its way to the “trash can of history”, to use one of their beloved expressions.

Similarly, our Greek Orthodox Church in America is done if Elpidophoros does not resign or otherwise be removed.  It is either him or the Faith and the faithful. And he has no chance to win this battle.

  1. Kasselakis was always a flaming and irreverent atheist —
now all of a sudden is church going? No – just a pawn used by Elpidoktonos to dismantle church.

Den tha to kataferon…. den tha to epitrepsi o Theos ke e pisti mas! Den exoun katholou drope e ali oi megalitere satanades pou einai pisotous! Ta akatharmata! E amarties aftes tha tous katastepsoun; mia ke kali.

  3. Brainwashing feeds off of human pride and a lust for control.  Those in “positions of church leadership” have literally commandeered what God gave through His Son, a simple, direct, unencumbered relationship with Him, and have fashioned unto themselves their idol, their golden calf, their own little kingdoms in which they can rule, control, and exercise dominion, unfettered!

For there are many unruly men, empty talkers and mind-deluders, whose mouths must needs be stopped, men who are upsetting whole houses, teaching the things which ought not to be taught – for the sake of base gain.  Titus 1:10-11

It seems to me, that Elpi, Bart, and the gay bird are all in bed with Intelligence and government. To use the Creed for political gain? I have no words.

  4. Wasn’t he supposed to be doing military service? 🙂

Despite this “Elpidophoros’ Glyfada 2.0” moment that the article is reporting on, when St. John Chrysostom and St. Basil’s Liturgies took their original form, these were some of the regulations governing who could or could not attend Liturgy:

    1) Those who fell into heavy and / or scandalous sin (especially publicly) would be “sent back to the ranks of the Catechumens” until they demonstrated sufficient repentance.

    2) After the epistle / gospel readings, the rank of the Catechumens would “depart” (…”Let the Catechumens depart…”), and observe the remainder of the Liturgy from the Narthex. In the case of severe sin, or severe non-repentant attitude, the individual might even have been ejected from the rank of the Catechumens as well, and not allowed to set foot in the entire building…we all read the story about the intervention of the “invisible force” that wouldn’t let St. Mary of Egypt set foot in the church building…

    3) Note: “τας θυρας, τας θυρας..” which is proclaimed just before the Creed is a reminder to “close the doors” that separate the Narthex from the central part of the church building, precisely to “physically” make sure that ONLY those in good standing (and possibly those who managed to arrive on time to the service) remain to hear the words “τα αγια τοις αγιοις” (The holy things are for the holy people [of God]), and “μετα φοβου Θεου, Πιστεως, και Αγαπης προσελθετε” (with the fear of God, Faith, and Love approach…)

    4) Therefore, the non-Orthodox, and those who were NOT in good standing were NOT allowed to remain “among the faithful” (in good standing). We can argue that there were a couple clear exceptions from time to time. For example, when the Russians were looking for a religion, the emissaries that were sent to Constantinople observed the Divine Liturgy at St. Sophia, and became convinced that this was the correct religion. Obviously, this was a well-natured, reasonable exception to the otherwise strict rule.

    5) However, when you are WILLINGLY, and PROUDLY “living in sin” & “living outside the Church’s spiritual boundaries”, and you publicly parade your sin (by showing off “Tyler”) in a place of worship, that constitutes a purposeful scandalization of the people and a disturbance of their inner peace, and that is NOT well-natured or reasonable (to justify the perpetrator of the scandal remaining in the building). And to have a bishop of the church sanction this outrage and have the perpetrator of the scandal read the Creed is an even greater scandal piled upon the first scandal. Fr. Villis can claim “υπακοη” (obedience) to his bishop as an excuse all day, but he willingly received the “παρακαταθηκη” of the Reserve Sacrament (Body of Christ) in his hands on the day of his sacred Ordination, and made a promise to God (Not to Elpidophoros) to protect it with his own life…excusing himself from the proceedings due to an “illness”, just like Ephraim of Vatopedi did when he landed in Kiev hours before the “enthronement of Epiphanios” would have been far more more honorable in this case, than what actually transpired. However, sometimes lifting an ounce of spiritual weight is much harder than bench-pressing hundreds of pounds in the gym…that’s why we have the scriptural quote that all we need is the “faith the size of a mustard seed” to make great things happen…sad to see this demise, really…

In general, this justifies the already increasing trend of “where Elpidophoros shows up, the faithful don’t”…The biblical phrase says “St. Paisios said “the people know holiness when they see it”…the people also know how to run away from “wolves in sheepskins”…the faithful like their Tradition more than they do the “Reformers” who try to destroy it.

  6. Unfortunately, the monk is not familiar with Scripture. St Paul clearly states in 1 Corinthians chapter 14 that it is better to speak 5 words in a language that can be understood than 10000 words in an unknown language. Monk John, you hold on to your language I will hold on to Christ. Language saves no one only Christ saves. Good luck.

    • Jk,

This seems to be an exaggerated reaction…

An overwhelming percentage of heresies and false dogmas can trace their origins to misinterpretations and poor translations of the original Greek. Those heresies would be delusional to claim that they are “holding on to Christ” especially when that heresy includes blasphemous dogma (concerning the Holy Spirit, the Theotokos, the natures of Christ, etc).

In that light, I’ll ask anyone in this forum what specific English edition of New Testament scripture is out there that maps to the original Greek 100%, without room for debate? The plain truth is, it isn’t easy to point to a single one… they all have issues, some more, some less, and if you don’t know the original text, you won’t be able to navigate these issues properly.

This does not mean that Orthodoxy is only open to people who understand Greek. That would be absurd. However, while the citation of St. Paul is absolutely correct, the one who “teaches” in whatever language that is “understood” should first understand the original text and it’s meaning very well before trying to translate its message to others…that’s the missing link here. That’s what the Apostle’s quote in Acts was all about (to the Ethiopian standing and preaching to others in the chariot)…”Do you understand that which you are reading”?

At the same time, a couple hundred words of repeatable liturgical Greek should not be impossible to learn (at least for Divine Liturgy) by an otherwise educated society that for a college degree, had to learn thousands of words in Spanish or French, or some other language. The readings and variable troparia can be done in English, but there is no reason why the repeatable Kyrie Eleison, or Soson Imas can’t be stated in Greek, especially when there is so much printed material available to know exactly what those phrases mean in English…going 100% English is not the answer, either.

  7. Markos, many saints had absolutely no knowledge of Greek. I know Greek fairly well and can not pray even the Lord’s prayer in Greek. We must remember that Jesus spoke Aramaic. Is the translation of the Old Testament exactly correct? That being said, there may be some parishes where Greek could be used. I believe the good monk has a distorted view of Christianity. By the way, there were many heresies before the NT was translated into English.

    • The Septuagint was a translation where 72 Hebrew scholars agreed on the Greek translation, so that version text was a massive undertaking, and is what we use in Orthodoxy. Old testament quotes within the New Testament generally agree with the Septuagint version.

    • Also, the Aramaic argument is quite an interesting debate…why was it that only Hebrew, Latin, Greek were written on the sign on top of the Cross? Why was Aramaic omitted if it was the dominant language of the region?

  8. Markos, there are many versions of the Septuagint. Many scholars produce the English translations of the NT as many scholars have produced translations of the Liturgy. Is the Liturgy less of a Liturgy if the translations are different? Nevertheless, the most authoritative statement of language in the church comes from the passage from St Paul in 1 Corinthians 14. The purpose of a Christian church is not the preservation of a language but rather the living and spreading of salvation and new life in Christ.

    • If the translation isn’t 100% correct, the message becomes altered, and St. Paul’s wonderful quote from 1 Corinthians 14 hits a brick wall pretty quickly…you can’t present “two different messages” (2 interpretations) and simultaneously claim they are equivalent…that’s exactly why we observe are hundreds of disjointed denominations and heresies out there…

We always default to the versions that our Church Fathers used, quoted, cited, and and commented upon…the first Ecumenical Synod determined what books (and versions of text) were Canonical, and which ones were either heretical or of “dubious origin”, and to be rejected. The Fathers of the 1st Ecumenical Synod undoubtedly still had access to more accurate original material than we have access to 1700 years after they convened…maybe they even had an original scroll from the Library of Alexandria that housed the original Septuagint…we’ll never know for sure, however:

Nowadays scholarship research relies upon the 4 most ancient codices that survive (Codex Sinaiticus, Vaticanus, Alexandrinus, Ephraemi) …even atheist German scholars of the 19th & 20th century had scientifically concluded based on these 4 that the text was authentic, from an authentic common original source. I have modern fascimile copies of 3 of these, all dating back to around 350 to 400 A.D.(soon after the 1st Ecumenical Synod)…they are quite fascinating to examine…

    • JK.. Markos is absolutely right “An overwhelming percentage of heresies and false dogmas can trace their origins to misinterpretations and poor translations of the original Greek. Those heresies would be delusional to claim that they are “holding on to Christ” especially when that heresy” includes dogma by the U.S Evangelical Protestant dominant leaders of the Christian churches, Congress, and Government and of course… LGQBT Altar Boy Kasselakis and the “Holy Nato Empire” read in English that their “Holy Wars” against the world fulfill their purpose in preserving the libing and spreading of Salvation and New life in Christ for the Jews of Israel by genociding the Christian churches and faithful of Palestine and Middle East! Yes JK .. of course they should not preserve the language of the Original Church of Christ…how else could they be charged with Fraud , and certify their label as the U.S Empire of lies! How else can they continue to use their religion and their English Bible .. to righteously save the world and entitling them to Kill every Christian on Earth to do it !
The Translated to English language Bible told Evangelical Protestants lawmakers and Government officials like George Bush Jr. ….

” Supporting Israel is not a political issue. It is a Bible issue,” Evangelical Church leader Hagee proclaimed in a May 23 sermon on what he called “the battle for Jerusalem Jews are God’s chosen people and the rightful owners of all of Palestine through a “blood covenant”, Hagee declared ….
Whenever Jesus comes back, Israel is going to be the dominant nation in the world,” Hagee said, touching the belief among many evangelicals that Jesus will return soon to save his followers from this earthly world.”
Yes Markos ..Excellent Post.. now we all know, it is not the Greek language in our churches that is a problem in bringing Salvation to the world at the point of a gun , but the English translated version which is used to justify genocide for the Greater purpose of God …the elevation of Israel as the dominant Nation of the world! God Bless America…and God Bless Kasselakis and his “Holy NATO EMPIRE” who defend us all!

  9. If Kasselakis wants a military alliance, he should lead from the front lines, not from an office. I think he prefers to bring up the rear…just sayin’.

  10. Markos, do you dismiss the Latin vulgate translation by St Jerome? That translation was used by many Saints in the west. Again, there are many saints who knew absolutely no Greek. Pentecost and the missionary work of Cyril and Methodios stand as examples of how language should be used-the message should be presented in a language people understand.

Markos, you seem to be a very knowledgeable person but I think you are on the wrong side of this discussion.

    • I’ve already agreed with you several times that St. Paul is 100% correct about spreading the message in a language people understand…we are both on the same side of that discussion, but that’s no longer the current discussion.

It’s really about ensuring that the “message is not lost in translation”… Cyril and Methodios were obviously great translators, looking at the results of their labor…King James’ entourage was “less great” (they even changed the name of St. Iakovos to James instead of Jacob, in honor of their King, and now we have a “renamed Apostle” that has become the “de facto” English citation throughout the world, at the same time the other Western languages quote Jacob, or Jakob)…and of course, other subsequent English translations we see on the shelf were “not great at all”…

Rejecting Greek in favor of “holding on to Christ” via a problematic translation, is not what serious scholars of the New Testament do… Many years ago in University, I witnessed two types of students in the Ancient Greek classes…Classics / Archaeology majors, and Evangelical Protestants who wanted to learn Ancient Greek so they could read Scripture, because they were tired of trying to determine which of the multiple variant translations were the “correct message”….if only the Greek diaspora students would adopt the same mindset and zeal, we would be living a very different reality in our parishes today…

We certainly do not dismiss Rome or Latin dogma or text when it was preached by Orthodox-minded bishops and Orthodox Popes, such as Pope Leo III, who was against the Filioque. However, the New Testament scriptures were generally translated from original Greek texts into Latin, so while very ancient Latin codices are important to compare against, Latin will always remain a “translation” of the original text, from a historical perspective. The question on the table is, “how good is that Latin translation”. I would safely bet that an ancient Latin Codex will be much more accurate than any single English translation, because much of Latin grammatical, syntactical, linguistic structure was heavily influenced by Greek, and English by default has a lot of “gaps of congruence” when compared to Greek or even Latin. It is inherently a “less rich” language. That’s why we all observe a ‘sea of confusion’ in the translated texts…

  12. Markos, unfortunately you miss understand my response to monk John. As stated , his primary concern is the Greek language not Christ. St Paul clearly states we preach Christ and Him crucified a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to the Greeks.
Additionally, the canon of the New Testament was not formalized at the first Ecumenical Council.

    • Jk.. Really, you must have misunderstood my post as well as Marcos ..but to publically state that Monk John , and for that matter all Greek Orthodox monks and Clergy are primarily concerned in the Greek language ..not “CHRIST” Is like saying that Pastors of the Evangelical Church and Government are more concerned about preserving the Hebrew and English language of America and Greece to support the genocidal bombing of the Heretic Greek and Catholic churches and Clergy of Palestine ..who are not concerned about Christ the Righteous Religion Pastors of America!
Furthermore… you accuse the Made for T.Y. Evangelical Pastors of America who preach in support of their ministry and Gospel to National audiences of America.. use “Greek language and writing “as part of their services to inform their audience that they are legitimately bringing truth to them about what Christ was telling us from the Bible ! JK .. try an catch many of these shows .. when in point of fact ..the entire service and preaching to the Evangelical .. is based on T.V. screens .. pasted in Greek , not English or Hebrew all the gospels of the Bible which the Evangelical Ministers point to ..and then speak in Greek.. to legitimise to their audience .. that what he tell them is certifiably supported by the Greek writers of Christ …. So I guess JK… even evangelical Pastors are only concerned about Greek language and writing , not Christ!
I sorry if i am not understanding you !

  13. Michael, I have made no response to your post. Candidly speaking, I have no idea what you are talking about. I have never stated that all Greek Orthodox monks and priests are primarily concerned with the Greek language. I know many that focus on Christ .

    • JK, Thank God, you do know some Greek Orthodox Priests and Monks who do not focus on the Greek Language in there service every Sunday.. and certifiably know ..that they actually focus on Christ! And do tell us all who they are , so we can glorify them , and throw out the Heretics who speak in Greek during our services and do not worship our lord and savior.. Jesus Christ! And JK.. might they be State Department Greek Orthodox Clerics .. The Patriarch of the Greek Orthodox Church ..Bartholomew , Archbishop of North America .. Epidophorous, and of course Greek Orthodox Altar boy and Patriarch of the “Holy Nato Evangelical Caliphate” .. Kasselakls who only focus on Christ to wage war on the Heritic clergy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church who you obviously know who do not focus on Christ .. but Patriarch Krill of Moscow!
