Onufriy) did not mince his words referring to Pat. Bartholomew:  “As a result of your actions, our Ukrainian Orthodox Church is suffering today.”

There is no end to the martyrdoms experienced by the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, while global Orthodoxy remains silent in the face of beatings of High Priests, clergy and believers.

Today, Thursday, October 17, 2024, violent clashes took place in the city of Cherkasy, specifically in the Cathedral Church of Archangel Michael of I.M. Cherkasy of the Church of Ukraine.

According to Ukrainian media reports, in the early hours of Thursday the Cathedral was attacked by about 100 people in military uniforms and foul face masks, who also occupied the Church.

The leader of the occupation was the military priest of the Autocephalous Church of Ukraine Fr.

Also, the cleric in question carried out a bloody occupation of a Monastery in Cherkasy, during which clerics and nuns of the Ukrainian Church were severely beaten.

During the night occupation, the holy vigil was interrupted, while clergy and parishioners of the Ukrainian Church, as well as the legal advisor of the Holy Metropolis, were savagely beaten.

The attackers destroyed the video cameras in the Cathedral buildings, took away the phones of worshippers, preventing them from filming, while breaking doors and windows.

Then supporters of the Autocephalous Church of Ukraine looted the treasury of the Cathedral, and took away more than 60,000 dollars collected by the faithful for the repair of the church and the purchase of bells.

Ancient icons with relics, computers, church books were stolen, as well as all the property of Metropolitan Theodosios from his Episcopate, including clothes and robes.

It is worth noting that clerics of the Autocephalous Church in videos they made from the Cathedral announced the violent transition of the Church and the establishment of a “military parish community” in it, calling on the faithful to continue going to church and praying in Ukrainian: ” Believe us, your hearts will open if you start praying in the Ukrainian language and not in the Church Slavonic, which is imposed on us.”

Early in the morning, Metropolitan Theodosios, who was under overnight house arrest in Kiev, arrived in Cherkassy and with the help of believers he evicted squatters from the Holy Church.

Shocking was the moment when the squatters attacked Metropolitan Theodosios inside the Holy Temple, and then fled, firing at the same time with gas guns to intimidate.

Beaten Metropolitan Theodosios made a video from the Cathedral, saying: “Everyone ran away. Among the attackers was a member of the municipal council, whom our faithful caught and handed over to the police…”

Also, Metropolitan Cherkasy called the faithful to defend the Cathedral, stressing that “they do not understand any human language, so we must protect our Cathedral from robbers who did not build it, who do not know how to pray, who only know how to steal, to drink and report to the authorities and their spiritual master abroad’.

Metropolitan Theodosios also addressed the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew through the video, where he appeals for an end to the hostilities:

“With the blessing of the blessed Metropolitan of Kyiv, Mr. Vladimir, I visited you in 2013. We worked together in the monastery of Panagia Sumela. Then I was surprised by your hospitality, simplicity in communication and, it seems, the desire to help the Orthodox. But as a result of your actions, our Ukrainian Orthodox Church is suffering today.

Your spiritual children – legalized schismatics of the so-called “Kiev Patriarchate” are beating us, occupying our churches, destroying our monasteries, pushing for laws banning our Church, while bringing criminal cases against us, acting as “witnesses” and “victims ».

Your Holiness, Mr. Bartholomew, stop the lawlessness being done on Ukrainian soil with your word – ask your spiritual children to stop! Do not make fun of believers if your children consider themselves Orthodox! It’s up to you!”

Second attack

A few hours after the retreat, supporters of the Autocephalous Church of Ukraine in military uniforms arrived at the Cathedral for a second attack.

Characteristic was the moment when the Mayor of the city, A. Bondarenko, published an appeal inviting the residents of the city to go to the cathedral “to pray”, that is, in fact, to support the occupation of the temple.

At 11:30 the Cathedral was again occupied by paramilitary supporters of Metropolitan Epiphanios.

The attackers used tear gas, which resulted in dozens of victims including clergy of the Ukrainian Church with injuries of varying severity.

After the beating, Metropolitan Theodosios was hospitalized, while the police who were at the scene did absolutely nothing to prevent the clashes.

For his part, the head of the Regional Administration, I. Taburets, supported the occupation of the Cathedral, saying that “the path to the spiritual independence of Ukraine is unchanged.”

Ukrainian media actively spread information that the Cathedral belonged to the Autocephalous Church and was occupied by supporters of the Ukrainian Church.

However, in his speeches, Metropolitan Theodosius repeatedly emphasized that the Cathedral was built entirely at the expense of the Cherkasy Metropolis of the Ukrainian Church and is its property, therefore the attempts of Epiphanius’ followers to declare a “voluntary transition” of the community are fraudulent.

Finally, the Ukrainian Telegram channels, citing anonymous sources from the Office of the President of Ukraine, report that “the Office of the President gave the green light for the occupation of the churches of the Ukrainian Church with the help of the army and radicals, in order to shift the emphasized by the losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces at the front”.
