UPDATE Sept. 20: It was announced late yesterday that a meeting at the White House has been set between President Trump and Erdogan for Sept. 25th… This makes the Don Jr.’s visit purpose a lot clearer…
In the shadows of Dolmabahçe Palace, reports surfaced this week of a private and undisclosed meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The revelation came not from official communiqués, but from the lips of Turkey’s opposition leader Özgür Özel, who accused the government of concealing the visit.
According to Özel, Trump Jr. appeared on the palace protocol merely as a “businessman,” his name deliberately omitted. A delegation of businessmen allegedly accompanied him. The secrecy, Özel charged, betrays a larger political maneuver: Why would the son of America’s former president – and perhaps the next one – be ushered into the palace under such concealment?
Alleged Purpose: Gaza and Beyond
Opposition voices insist that the discussions touched on Palestine and Gaza, pointing to Erdoğan’s increasingly contradictory stance: condemning Israel loudly on the world stage while, they argue, quietly entertaining emissaries close to Washington.
Yet sources close to Erdoğan have scrambled to play down the episode, describing the encounter as nothing more than a “courtesy visit.” They firmly deny that Gaza, U.S. military sales, or any substantive geopolitical matters were discussed.
A Question of Trust
The story, however, refuses to fade. Turkish media note that no official photographs, transcripts, or presidential press releases have been issued to confirm or clarify what transpired. Neither Donald Trump Jr. nor Erdoğan’s office has publicly acknowledged the meeting.
This silence has given the opposition fertile ground: was this truly a chance courtesy call, or was Erdoğan sending signals to Washington through back-channels, preparing for a potential Trump return to the White House?
Political Backdrop
The timing is significant. Erdoğan faces domestic criticism for his handling of the Gaza crisis and for Turkey’s strained economy. At the same time, Ankara continues its delicate dance with Washington over F-16 purchases, NATO obligations, Syria, and Kurdish issues.
For the Turkish opposition, the alleged secret meeting embodies a troubling pattern: Erdoğan speaking one language in public, another behind closed doors.
What Remains Unknown
Until evidence emerges – a photo, a statement, a schedule entry – the meeting will remain shrouded in ambiguity. What is clear, however, is that the opposition has seized the moment, casting Erdoğan as duplicitous and raising suspicions about Trumpworld’s quiet outreach to Ankara.
As one commentator put it: “If it was only a courtesy visit, why the secrecy?”

Please clarify to modify the phrase The secret meeting a son “of a former US President and, the next one…””
why confuse the status of a sitting US President Trump -on September 2025 -why the misapplication??
Was this meeting two-three years ago??
Regrettably,
This secret meeting with Donald Trump’s son with Erdogan in Turkey is very disturbing to Greek/American relations, as Trump has never visited Greece to respect by honoring to balance the Aegean Tensions in the Mediterranean Sea, due to provocations by Turkey.
