OUR MAIN PHOTO. This is from a 2023 visit to Albania: The Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, accompanied by the daughter of the President of the USA, Donald Trump, Ivanka Trump, and her husband Jared Kushner, visited the National Museum of Wiretapping (???!!) “House of Leaves”. Up to a few months ago (mid-2025), Jared and Ivanka were in serious discussions with Edi Rama for a $1.4 billion investment in Albania!! Yes, Edi Rama is allegedly involved with organized crime!!
When Will Trump Arrest Edi Rama and the Albanian Narco Traffickers? Why are Jared Kushner and Ivanka in talks with Rama for a $1.4 billion investment?
By Nick Stamatakis
We witnessed the United States arrest Nicolás Maduro on drug trafficking and narcoterrorism charges — a sitting head of state apprehended, airlifted to New York, and set to face court for allegedly directing drug flows into the U.S. (drug trafficking = arrestable offense). So here’s a burning question: Why isn’t the same fire pointed at Albania’s Edi Rama?
Because while Maduro’s arrest was broadcast on American cable news, another far more expansive narcotics ecosystem remains unprosecuted in the glare of U.S. political justice.
Europe Knows What the U.S. Pretends Not to See
European law enforcement doesn’t speak in Twitter threads, it speaks in seizures, indictments, and multi-nation investigations:
Massive European cocaine trafficking rings led by Albanian organized crime networks have been dismantled across EU borders, involving tons of cocaine transported from Latin America into Europe via Albanian-linked channels.
Italian and Balkan agencies have repeatedly uncovered encrypted communications and cargo movements showing Albanian groups’ central role in European drug flows.
This isn’t fringe gossip — European prosecutors and international task forces have documented the scale and structure of these networks. Yet in the United States, the public narrative is silent.
Albania’s Political Elite: Shadowed by Scandal
Critics — including domestic opposition figures and investigative reporting — have accused Albania’s political class of corruption and connections to organized crime. These accusations haven’t resulted in criminal judgments against Rama himself — there are no convictions proving Edi Rama personally trafficked drugs.
But there are documented cases involving officials in his government. Most notoriously:
Former Interior Minister Saimir Tahiri, appointed under Rama, was legally convicted for helping criminal networks — including drug trafficking clans — while in office (though not directly for drug trafficking itself). This was based on Italian investigations revealing his assistance to traffickers. (Check the above link and citations in the end).
Allegations of “narco-state” tendencies and corruption under Rama’s leadership have repeatedly surfaced in EU reports and U.S. diplomatic assessments, pointing to deep vulnerabilities in governance and law enforcement.
Then there’s the political narrative — tweets, online posts, and opposition claims circulating about Rama’s web of influence with Western elites — not as court evidence, but as political reckoning for how power, money, and illicit networks intersect.
Karloutsos and Edi Rama — A Sidebar of Influence
Political bloggers and commentators have tied Edi Rama to influential overseas figures, such as members of the diaspora and lobbyists, suggesting close access to U.S. corridors of influence. These postings include references to the Karloutsos family and Rama’s U.S. connections, implying leverage across business and political spheres.

While not legal evidence, this narrative reinforces perceptions of a political class intertwined with wealth and power — potentially including narcotics-linked money flows (link here for a Helleniscope 2020 article on Edi Rama’s visit to the US).
The Kushner Connection: Vacation, Museums… and Luxury Investments
Then comes the odd juxtaposition:
Former President Trump’s daughter, Ivanka Trump, and her husband, Jared Kushner, visited Albania with Prime Minister Edi Rama, strolling through Tirana’s National Museum of Wiretapping (“House of Leaves”) with photos released of the three smiling together.

Ivanka and Kushner weren’t there to denounce narcotics networks or announce joint law enforcement cooperation. They were on a sponsored cultural tour and vacationing on the Albanian coast (link here). Did anyone notice Rick Grenell in the background (left)?
But that’s not all: Kushner’s private equity firm now backs a €1.4 billion luxury resort project on Albania’s Sazan Island, granted “strategic investor” status by Rama’s government, with tax incentives and expedited approvals.
Are we to assume that Jared Kushner did NOT know about Rama and his government’s long-documented vulnerabilities to drug cartel influence and corruption?
Because on one hand, the U.S. will proudly arrest Maduro for drug trafficking; on the other, it will embrace, invest with, vacation with, and publicly praise a government plagued by documented organized crime scandals.

Double Standards With No Defense
It’s not just cynicism — it’s structural hypocrisy:
Maduro = arrestable drug trafficker in a U.S. courtroom.
Albanian organized crime = European police matters, worthy of discreet task forces and press releases… but no U.S. political outrage.
Albania’s political leadership = investment partners and photo ops with elite American figures.
That is a stark double standard in how the global drug fight is litigated politically rather than pursued consistently.
Final Questions
If the U.S. is genuinely committed to combating narcotics networks globally — not just when politically expedient — when will Trump, Kushner, and the Justice Department take the same justice-oriented approach toward Edi Rama’s Albania that they took toward Maduro? Or is selective prosecution now official U.S. policy?
Also, why is the Mitsotakis government so “receptive” to the Trump narrative? Why do they not expose Edi Rama for what he truly is? Albanian drug traffickers have ravaged certain areas of Greece. And Rama is suppressing Greeks in Northern Epirus (southern Albania)!! When will Mitsotakis act like a prime minister of Greece, not an agent of foreign interests?

Nick, you have outdone yourself! Your analysis in this article is revealing and absolutely condemning. Thank you for bringing these facts to light with such credible and persuasive insights.
This administration has no scruples. It exercises raw power with no principles. Greece is in a difficult position, and so is our Greek-American community. We desperately need real leaders and we have only corrupt nincampoops!
Thank God we have Karloutsos, a pious priest who boasts being a Protopresbyter of the Ecumenical Throne and a Presidential Medal of Freedom laureate. He looks ready to take Rama’s confession and persuade him to repent. Did he bring along Fredo? Was his next stop Morocco or Grand Cayman? You can’t make up this sh__t!
The hypocrisy in U.S. policy is obvious, and so is the corruption.
At this point, all we have is a free press to reveal their crimes. Thank you for being one of the few journalists holding them accountable.
Your analysis is on target by the hypocrisy of US Foreign Policy engagements that undermine American Democratic Principles and its violations of International Law. The American People were ignored, as Congress , did not authorize military intervention in Venezuela. Regrettably, over 20 years ago, as prelude or pretext to invade Iraq , No Weapons of Mass Destruction were found by anyone at the time. Again , on the wrong side of history -as the US Military Industrial Complex has its own agenda which prevails, over the functional components that threaten the 250 year democracy.
Trump -“The Policeman of World Order”!, what narcissistic dangerous tendencies, in order to provoke by
intimidation, as he turns a blind eye to his own family’s financial relationship with the thugs from Albania.
Is there any sign of Russia taking an interest in placing troops in Albania in such a a way as to counter the machinations that this article worries about? Of course not! Russia might make propaganda use of these Albanian matters, but the nation of Greece can expect no concrete help from Russia on its northern flank.
Thus Greece has any one sensible course: Go along with the US policy. The real danger to Greece will be from Turkey and that danger will be much worse if Greece diplomatically isolates itself from the US.
Jared Kushner is working hard to be the Hunter Biden of the Trump administration. Sadly, this self-interested son-in-law, who while not having Hunter’s drug habit, is far more greedy and willing to take advantage of his marital position.
Jared had his pockets lined with international deals back in 2020 and clearly distanced himself from Trump for the four years afterwards when the never-Trumpers were on their mission to get Trump locked-up no matter what. Yet now Jared returns to the stage to continue his grift. Regrettably, the President appears to be putting his blind love for his daughter ahead of his own legacy. Let’s not forget from what tree did the Jared Kushner apple fall from.
Regarding Venezuela and Maduro, I suggest we first look to the very positive responses of the recent events from actual Venezuelans that are now living in the US regarding the national and international benefits of removing a narco-terrorist despot. How these myopic pseudo-elite-academics in Manhattan (mostly elderly women on government pensions), with their Soros printed posters, immediately protested in support of this anti-democratic poisoner of countless victims across our Nation and elsewhere, is beyond reason. Where were their protests when their youthful Hero JFK, didn’t have the guts or brains to remove their other Hero Castro from Cuba. As a result of JFK’s failure at the Bay of Pigs and it’s aftermath, the Cuban people suffered and we had Soviet missiles parked in our backyard, while having to pull our missiles in Turkey that were aimed at Khrushchev. Under Trump’s action, the Russians and especially the Chinese were functionally told to stay away from our neighborhood and to stop bleeding the people of Venezuela by propping up their stooge Maduro.
I may be wrong, but it’s probably because I wasn’t fortunate enough to go to Day Care in one of those fine, tax-payer funded Somali Learing Centers.
Wishing a Happy and Healthy New Year to all at Helleniscope (editors and readers alike)!
Happy New Year to you Dimitri! The main point here is “the rule of law”: if tomorrow Russia organizes a similar operation in Kiev and abducts Zelensky as they have all the means to do, or if China abducts the President of the Philippines or Vietnam, will the hypocrites in DC wear their masks and claim that Russia and China violated international law? You bet they will… We are dealing with an extreme case of supremacy/hubris/arrogance and we all know that this is the most self-destructive force.
Trump’s family has benefited enormously from his presidency. That was no secret. As did Hunter Biden, during his father’s vice presidency. That was no secret either. The problem is that Biden wasn’t running in 2024, so Hunter would not have continued to feed at the trough. Trump was running and we all knew how self serving he is. And yet, Trump got the majority of the votes, over Harris, by a slim margin and a greater spread by the electoral college. So, I ask you people, that voted for Trump. Why are you complaining now? Don’t get me wrong. Changing our mind is a prerogative that we all posses. But Trump’s insatiable appetite for self enrichment was a known fact. There were primaries in case you couldn’t stomach Harris. You had your choice. And you chose Trump.
Bod – hold your horses… We all believed in his proclamations about “America First” which became all the more convincing by two assassination attempts. It now seems that he is totally controlled by the Deep State and he has abandoned forever the “Rule of Law”… Let’s hope that he will not have time to “achieve” what the pro-Israel lobby now demands: TO ABOLISH THE FIRST AMENDEMENT AND ABOLISH FREE SPEECH. In which case me and you and many others will be heading elsewhere – because America will not be America anymore…
Let’s initiate a petition or urge U.S. authorities and international partners to conduct a thorough investigation into credible claims of corruption and criminal associations involving Albanian officials, including Prime Minister Edi Rama. We should also seek accountability through appropriate legal means when necessary. Additionally, any private investment talks between U.S. businesspeople and Albania must be transparent and fully disclosed to prevent conflicts of interest.
Not a good start for 2026. Astonishing that US insists she is a democracy but acts very authoritarian around the world. Who will be next? The mighty of this world forgot they are immortal and are money focused at the expense of the poor in Venezuela and Gaza. It is the poor that will be hit the hardest from all this.
My hope in 2026 is that at least the massacre in Ukraine will cease. 2 Orthodox countries killing their young men will cause a demographic collapse.
Also even with the wars going on last year, more than 73 million abortions occurred worldwide, making it the leading cause of death, per WHO. God created men in His image, but we chose to behave worse than animals and kill each other and our children.
