Trump’s war narrative disintegrates — and the blame points squarely at Israel

From the very beginning, Helleniscope warned that this war would end in strategic disaster. On February 28, the first day of the war, we wrote that Donald Trump was “destroying his presidency” and risking global catastrophe by launching a war with Iran. Ours and many others’ warnings were dismissed at the time as alarmist.

It now reads as restrained.

The resignation of Joe Kent is not just another bureaucratic shake-up. It is a direct indictment from inside the system—a declaration that the central premise of the war was false.

Kent’s message is devastating in its clarity:

• Iran posed no imminent threat to the United States

• The war was driven by a manufactured narrative.

• That narrative was heavily shaped by Israeli pressure and influence networks

This is not dissent at the margins. This is the collapse of the war’s intellectual foundation.

The Narrative Is Breaking — From the Inside and the Outside

Kent’s resignation is only the most visible crack in what is rapidly becoming a full-scale rupture.

Inside the system:

• Senior military leadership, including General Caine (Chairman of the Joint Chiefs), reportedly warned of:

  • No clear endgame

  • High escalation risk

  • The danger of another open-ended Middle Eastern war

• Intelligence officials raised concerns that:

  • The “imminent threat” standard was stretched beyond recognition.

  • Dissenting assessments were filtered out or ignored.

Outside the system, the revolt is even more striking.

A massive media and grassroots backlash has formed across audiences totaling tens of millions: Joe Rogan, Tucker Carlson, Candace Owens, Megyn Kelly, and many others…

These are not fringe voices. This is the core of Trump’s own political ecosystem—now openly rejecting the war.

Joe Kent’s resignation letter (March 17, 2026):

After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today.

I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby.

I support the values and the foreign policies that you campaigned on in 2016, 2020, 2024, which you enacted in your first term. Until June of 2025, you understood that the wars in the Middle East were a trap that robbed America of the precious lives of our patriots and depleted the wealth and prosperity of our nation.

In your first administration, you understood better than any modern President how to decisively apply military power without getting us drawn into never-ending wars. You demonstrated this by killing Qasam Solamani and by defeating ISIS.

Early in this administration, high-ranking Israeli officials and influential members of the American media deployed a misinformation campaign that wholly undermined your America First platform and sowed pro-war sentiments to encourage a war with Iran. This echo chamber was used to deceive you into believing that Iran posed an imminent threat to the United States, and that should you strike now, there was a clear path to a swift victory. This was a lie and is the same tactic the Israelis used to draw us into the disastrous Iraq war that cost our nation the lives of thousands of our best men and women. We cannot make this mistake again.

As a veteran who deployed to combat 11 times and as a Gold Star husband who lost my beloved wife Shannon in a war manufactured by Israel, I cannot support sending the next generation off to fight and die in a war that serves no benefit to the American people nor justifies the cost of American lives.

I pray that you will reflect upon what we are doing in Iran, and who we are doing it for. The time for bold action is now. You can reverse course and chart a new path for our nation, or you can allow us to slip further toward decline and chaos. You hold the cards.

It was an honor to serve in your administration and to serve our great nation.

International Isolation and Strategic Failure

At the geopolitical level, the situation is even more stark.

• All NATO allies have refused to participate
  The United States is effectively alone, a stunning reversal for an administration that promised strength through leverage.

• The war has failed to generate legitimacy, even among traditional partners

Meanwhile, on the ground, troubling signals are emerging:

• One U.S. aircraft carrier reportedly sustained damage (USS Abraham Lincoln)

• Another has been forced to withdraw due to technical failures (USS Gerald Ford) and is heading to Suda Bay.

• Both carrier groups are now leaving the Middle East, a symbolic and strategic retreat.

This is not escalation dominance. This is an erosion of capability and credibility in real time.

Israel and the Manufactured Casus Belli

Kent’s most explosive claim is also the most consequential: that this war was not organically driven by U.S. national security needs, but rather constructed through external influence.

He describes:

• A coordinated effort by Israeli officials and aligned actors

• An “echo chamber” amplifying selective intelligence

• A deliberate push to convince Washington that war was both necessary and winnable

If true, this would place the United States in the position of having entered a major conflict not out of necessity, but persuasion.

The Nuclear Danger We Warned About

For weeks, Helleniscope has also stressed a far darker dimension: the nuclear escalation pathway. A direct U.S.–Iran war does not exist in isolation. This now becomes an even more threatening eventuality, as the “hot heads” in Israel perceive these latest developments as an existential threat. It never crosses their mind that they should coexist with the Palestinians and another 500 million Arabs, Persians and others in the Middle East… No – they want dominance!! Otherwise their “culture” has the solution: “Sanson’s option!!”

Against these lunatics, we understand that China and Russia have already issued a warning and taken some measures: It is rumored that Russian submarines are shadowing Israeli submarines (the ones that Germany DONATED to Israel), which are capable of shooting nuclear missiles. President Trump also said that “Israel will not use nuclear weapons”, but who trusts him anymore?

I am sure the Iranians (and others) have already passed the message to Israel that they can get nuclear weapons from North Korea or Pakistan, and in any case, they can destroy Israel using the heavy ballistic missiles they already have.  Somebody put it nicely: the Persians invented chess, and the word “checkmate” is Farsi in origin (it derives from the Persian phrase shāh māt, which translates to “the King is helpless,” “the King is dead”).

Helleniscope Was Right — And the Consequences Are Now Unfolding

What we are witnessing is not just policy failure. It is narrative collapse.

• The justification for war is unraveling.

• The coalition behind it never materialized.

• The president’s own base was against it since the beginning, and now it is totally opposing any further war action.

• Senior officials are now resigning rather than defending it.

Joe Kent’s resignation may ultimately be remembered as the moment when the illusion broke—when someone inside the system said, plainly, what many already suspected:

There was no imminent threat.
There was no necessity.
There was only one decision—and it is now consuming the presidency that made it.
