“Door of the Church – No to Sakellaropoulou’s dinner at the Presidential Palace – What does the President of Greece answer
An announcement was issued by the Presidency of the Republic after the historic or unexplained decision of the Holy Synod to “sacrifice” the glamor and high symbolism of the Sunday of Orthodoxy – a celebration of centuries, as it has been valid since the 9th century – in order to effectively exclude the state and political leadership of the country from the most important religious event, in reaction to the same-sex marriage bill.
In order not to allow the President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou to say “I believe” and the “Our Father”, as the tradition itself dictates, the Holy Synod chose to hold the Synodal celebration of the Sunday of Orthodoxy at the Petraki Monastery instead of Metropolis of Athens.
However, after the “block” to the deputies, the Holy Synod also shows the “door” to the President of the Republic, for the established meal that the presidency provides to the members of the Synod for the Feast of Orthodoxy.

“Yesterday, March 4, the President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou sent invitations to the President of the Permanent Holy Synod of the Church of Greece, Archbishop of Athens Mr. Ieronymos and the Members of the Synod, for the customary lunch that she hosts in their honor at the Presidential Palace, on the occasion of the Feast of Orthodoxy.

The energy of the Hierarchy is unprecedented

The exclusion of state, political and military actors from a highly symbolic manifestation of faith, a ritual in fact marks a punitive behavior, which was decided to satisfy the faithful people who believe that the Church did not raise its voice.
The steps of rupture
The celebration will take place in the Petraki Monastery, with the participation of only three Metropolitans out of the twelve of the BIS and with the presence of the Archbishop as a co-prayer.
The Church considers that the President did not keep an equal distance – as it thinks it should – on a matter that directly contradicts its teaching.
On the contrary, he took an open position in favor of LGBTQ+ and on the same night that the law was passed, he celebrated with them.
The Permanent Holy Synod after studying the matter and after hearing the opinions of all twelve Synodal Metropolitans, as well as the Archbishop, passed what Mr. Hieronymos had in mind from the beginning: that the day be celebrated modestly and that the Church not become a spectacle and object of negative commentary. In this way, difficult things will be avoided, as the archbishop believes, since there is no risk of protests or complaints from priests and believers.
After this development, let’s not expect that the official dinner will be presented at the Presidency of the Republic to the Archbishop, the members of the Synod and the Minister of Education. In conclusion, this development has no historical precedent. It is happening for the first time and is an unofficial start of the legendary separation of Church and State.
It is also interesting whether and how the Presidency of the Republic and the political world will react to the insulting decision of the hierarchy and whether all this will indeed be perceived as an occasion to start the separation.

Ανακοίνωση εξέδωσε η Προεδρία της Δημοκρατίας μετά την ιστορική ή αψυχολόγητη απόφαση της Ιεράς Συνόδου, να «θυσιάσει» την αίγλη και τον υψηλό συμβολισμό, που έχει η Κυριακή της Ορθοδοξίας -ένας εορτασμός αιώνων, καθώς ισχύει από τον 9ο αιώνα – για να αποκλείσει ουσιαστικά την πολιτειακή και πολιτική ηγεσία του τόπου από την κορυφαίας σημασίας θρησκευτική εκδήλωση, ως αντίδραση στο νομοσχέδιο για τον γάμο ομοφύλων.
Προκειμένου να μην δώσει την δυνατότητα στην Πρόεδρο της Δημοκρατίας Κατερίνα Σακελλαροπούλου να πει το «Πιστεύω» και το «Πάτερ ημών», όπως ορίζει η ίδια η παράδοση, η Ιερά Σύνοδος επέλεξε να κάνει τον Συνοδικό εορτασμό της Κυριακής της Ορθοδοξίας στη Μονή Πετράκη αντί της Μητρόπολης Αθηνών.
Όμως, μετά το «μπλόκο» στους βουλευτές, η Ιερά Σύνοδος δείχνει «πόρτα» και στην Πρόεδρο της Δημοκρατίας, για το καθιερωμένο γεύμα που παραθέτει η προεδρία στα μέλη της Συνόδου για την Εορτή της Ορθοδοξίας.
Τα μέλη της Ιεραρχίας δεν θα παραστούν στο καθιερωμένο γεύμα, απορρίπτοντας έτσι την πρόσκληση, που τους εστάλη χθες. Σύμφωνα με ανακοίνωση της προεδρίας, η Κατερίνα Σακελλαροπούλου, απέστειλε τις σχετικές προσκλήσεις τη Δευτέρα 4 Μαρτίου, φαίνεται όμως πως έλαβε αρνητική απάντηση.
Στην ανακοίνωση της Προεδρίας αναφέρεται ότι η Πρόεδρος της Δημοκρατίας απέστειλε προσκλήσεις προς τον Αρχιεπίσκοπο Αθηνών και πάσης Ελλάδος Ιερώνυμο, καθώς και τα Μέλη της Διαρκούς Ιεράς Συνόδου, για το καθιερωμένο γεύμα που παραθέτει προς τιμήν τους στο Προεδρικό Μέγαρο, με την ευκαιρία της Εορτής της Ορθοδοξίας. Επίσης, σημειώνεται, ότι είναι πάντα ευπρόσδεκτοι στο Προεδρικό Μέγαρο, παράλληλα όμως είναι σεβαστή και η απόφασή τους ως προς το αν θα αποδεχθούν την πρόσκληση.

Πρωτοφανής η ενέργεια της Ιεραρχίας
Με την κίνηση της Ιεράς Συνόδου δεν θα υπάρξουν επίσημες προσκλήσεις, ούτε προς την Πρόεδρο της Δημοκρατίας, ούτε προς την κυβέρνηση και τα κόμματα, ενώ αποκλείονται πρέσβεις, καθώς και η ηγεσία των ενόπλων δυνάμεων, με αποτέλεσμα να μην υπάρξει καν η απόδοση τιμών από στρατιωτικό άγημα!
Ουσιαστικά η εκκλησιαστική ηγεσία επιλέγει μία ολοκληρωτική απομόνωση από κάθε άλλο θεσμό της Πολιτείας.
Ο αποκλεισμός των πολιτειακών, πολιτικών και στρατιωτικών παραγόντων από μία υψηλού συμβολισμού για την εκδήλωση της πίστης, τελετουργία σηματοδοτεί στην πραγματικότητα μία τιμωρητική συμπεριφορά, η οποία αποφασίστηκε για να ικανοποιηθεί ο πιστός λαός που θεωρεί ότι η Εκκλησία δεν ύψωσε φωνή.
Τα βήματα της ρήξης
Ο εορτασμός θα γίνει στην Μονή Πετράκη, με τη συμμετοχή μόνο τριών Μητροπολιτών εκ των δώδεκα της ΔΙΣ και με την παρουσία του Αρχιεπισκόπου ως συμπροσευχομένου.
Η Εκκλησία θεωρεί ότι η Πρόεδρος δεν τήρησε ίσες αποστάσεις- όπως νομίζει ότι θα έπρεπε- για ένα θέμα που έρχεται σε ευθεία αντίθεση με την διδασκαλία της.
Αντιθέτως πήρε ανοικτά θέση υπέρ των ΛΟΑΤΚΙ +και το ίδιο βράδυ που ψηφίστηκε ο νόμος, πανηγύρισε μαζί τους.
Η Διαρκής Ιερά Σύνοδος μετά από μελέτη του θέματος και αφού ακούστηκαν οι απόψεις και των δώδεκα Συνοδικών Μητροπολιτών, καθώς και του Αρχιεπισκόπου πέρασε αυτό που είχε εξ αρχής ο κ. Ιερώνυμος στο μυαλό του: να εορταστεί η μέρα σεμνά και να μην γίνει η Εκκλησία θέαμα και αντικείμενο αρνητικού σχολιασμού. Έτσι θα αποφευχθούν και τα δύσκολα, όπως πιστεύει ο αρχιεπίσκοπος, αφού δεν υπάρχει ο κίνδυνος να εκδηλωθούν διαμαρτυρίες ή γκρίνιες από ιερείς και πιστούς.
Μετά από αυτή την εξέλιξη να μην περιμένουμε ότι θα παρατεθεί το επίσημο γεύμα στην Προεδρία της Δημοκρατίας προς τον Αρχιεπίσκοπο, τα μέλη της Συνόδου και τον Υπουργό Παιδείας. Εν κατακλείδι η εξέλιξη αυτή δεν έχει ιστορικό προηγούμενο. Γίνεται για πρώτη φορά και αποτελεί ανεπίσημη έναρξη του πολυθρύλητου διαχωρισμού Εκκλησίας και Κράτους.
Έχει δε ενδιαφέρον το εάν και πώς θα αντιδράσει η Προεδρία της Δημοκρατίας και ο πολιτικός κόσμος στην προσβλητική απόφαση της ιεραρχίας και αν πράγματι θα εκληφθεί όλο αυτό ως αφορμή για να ξεκινήσει ο διαχωρισμός.

Greek politicians denounce Christianity by supporting any part of the LGBT agenda. The bishops of Greece deserve praise for challenging the ignorant politicians. They should also ban Archbishop Elpidophoros from serving in parishes in Greece after that baptism debacle two years ago.
