The sudden talk of “dialogue” with Russia coming from Europe’s leadership is not diplomacy. It is capitulation dressed up as statesmanship.
When Giorgia Meloni, Emmanuel Macron, and Friedrich Merz all converge on the same message — that Europe must begin talking to Russia — it is because the lie can no longer be sustained. The war is lost. The economy is broken. The alliance is fractured. And the technological gap is humiliating. Europe is not choosing diplomacy. It is surrendering to reality.
Ukraine Is Finished — Odessa Is the Key
Let’s be blunt: Russia has won the war in Ukraine. Not “is winning.” Not “may still prevail.” Has won.
The blockade of Odessa is the final strategic chokehold. Odessa is Ukraine’s last lifeline — economic, logistical, symbolic. If Odessa falls, Ukraine becomes a landlocked, amputated territory with no access to the sea, no independent trade routes, and no strategic relevance. A country without a coastline in the Black Sea region is not a state; it is a dependency.
Russia would then dominate the entire Black Sea. NATO would be expelled from one of the most strategically important maritime zones on the planet — without firing a shot in response. This is a defeat not just for Kyiv, but for NATO itself.
The Hypersonic Truth the West Cannot Hide
The reason Europe’s leaders suddenly sound “reasonable” is simple: they are afraid.
Russia now possesses a full spectrum of operational hypersonic weapons. Not prototypes. Not press releases. Real systems, deployed, tested, and proven. Oreshnik is only the most recent reminder — a message, not a surprise.
The West, meanwhile, has no operational hypersonic missiles. Zero. Years of announcements, billions spent, endless testing — all failures. Programs delayed. Targets missed. Physics ignored.
The gap is catastrophic: 15 to 20 years in missile technology. No air defense system in Europe can stop what Russia can launch. Every general, every intelligence chief, every serious strategist knows this.

Nord Stream: The Suicide of European Industry
The destruction of the Nord Stream pipelines was not an accident of history. It was the single most self-destructive act in modern European politics.

Germany’s manufacturing dominance, Europe’s export power, its social stability — all of it depended on that energy. Once Nord Stream was gone, de-industrialisation was inevitable.
Factories shut down.
Steel, chemicals, fertilizers collapsed.
Jobs vanished.
Capital fled.
German industry — the engine of Europe — is now relocating to China, Turkey, and the United States. In China and Turkey EU industries have easy access to cheap Russian natural gas!! Europe is being hollowed out in real time, while Brussels talks about “values” and “resilience.” There will be no recovery without Russian energy. None. Every serious economist knows this.
Greenland: The Moment the Mask Fell
Then came Greenland. Donald Trump’s open claims over Greenland did something Russia never could: it exposed the fiction of the transatlantic alliance. In one move, the United States made clear that European sovereignty is conditional — and negotiable.
Europe’s response was unprecedented: quiet military coordination to defend Greenland from its own ally. Let that sink in. This fact alone renders NATO finished, dead, kaput.
Europe is now planning for contingencies against the United States while simultaneously being unable to deter Russia. That is what total strategic failure looks like.
Why Europe Is Crawling Toward Moscow
Faced with military inferiority, economic collapse, technological backwardness, and an unreliable patron, Europe’s leadership has finally understood the obvious:
You cannot defeat Russia militarily.
You cannot outproduce it.
You cannot sanction it into collapse.
You cannot replace its energy.
You cannot rely on Washington.
That leaves one path: a negotiated coexistence with Russia.
Meloni, Macron, and Merz are not proposing peace. They are acknowledging defeat and trying to manage the consequences before the collapse becomes irreversible.
No Strategy, No Leverage, No Choice
Europe talked itself into a corner with moral absolutism, propaganda, and strategic fantasy. Now the bill has arrived.
Ukraine is being dismantled.
Europe is being de-industrialised.
NATO has been exposed.
The arms race has been lost.
The alliance has fractured.
Talking to Russia is not a bold move. It is the last move available.
And the tragedy is not that Europe must negotiate — it is that it waited until it had nothing left to negotiate with.

Things do look bleak right now. But this is not the first time that liberal Europe has been on the ropes. Trump is not gonna be around after three years. And let’s not overestimate Russia. She’s been fighting for 4 years, has lost hundreds of thousands of fighters for a sliver of land. That certainly doesn’t mean Russia is a behemoth. It means she’s weak.
European powers have invaded Russia four times in the last 400 years (or five? – I lost count). All these times they have the same goals (mainly to steal the vast resources Russia has) and they make the same mistakes – they never learn. This is the last time in history. There will be no “Europe” – as we now know it – after this. If humanity avoids nuclear destruction, the only Europe left will be dominated by Orthodoxy. As Kazantzakis said, “evil always tries, but in the end the good always is the victor”. It’s God’s will. You see a preview of the future by the massive turn of humanity globally to Orthodoxy.
The fact that Russia lost people (no more than 150.000 dead – don’t fool yourselves) means not much. Russia lost over 27 million during WW II. As we Greeks know all too well, the Orthodox faith provides the faithful with a deep foundation supporting “martyrdom” in the fight for good.
Europe as we know it has abandoned all the many positive aspects of its civilization and focused on the negative (greed, exploitation, domination, etc). Russia (and China and Greece and a few others) were never “supremacist” or “hegemonic” powers. The “Judeo-Christian” West lost first the “arms race”, then the “production race (because of its greed transferred all production to China) and in the end it lost the moral/cultural race.

The west has poured its entire military production into this and put Ukr uniforms on soldiers from all over the planet. And Russia’s victory grows more decisive every day.

We have to look at Russia’s situation with a clear eye and knowledge of wider history. We can’t be influenced by today’s politics of right vs liberals.
Invasions of one European nation to another have been a fact of life until 80 years ago. Nothing unusual about Russia’s case. France and the U.K. had been in more wars with each other than any other European nations. WWI and WWII were the most catastrophic in world history so far. It began with Germany invading Poland, from one side, while Russia invaded from the other. If Russia hadn’t signed the Ribentrop agreement, to divide Poland, WWII might have never happened. Because Hitler was aware of the peril of fighting a two front war. Russia was not an innocent victim as was Poland or Greece. And Russia had invaded Finland just before WWII
. And before that time, Russia had fought numerous wars with Sweden and took the land where Leningrad is now located, which did not belong to her.
England and France, and France and Germany are now friends. They dont hold a grudge for what happened in the past centuries. Why should Russia? After all, Russia is the largest country in the world, with abundant resources. If Russia was taken advantage by Europeans, then, how come she has all that land for only 140 million people?
As for colonies, Russia was the biggest colonizer. The initial Russian nation was around Moscow. It expended all the way to the Pacific. Russia was also ruling and exploiting the Islamic republics of “Stans”. That’s colonizing.
As for China and Greece not being imperialists, China was too weak and divided, her population starving to have the technology and resources to be an imperialist power. China was colonized by the Western powers and Japan, because she was weak. No country that was coloinized by another had the power to be a colonizer themselves. First they have to be strong enough to repel invaders, before they can devote resources for imperialism.

She was under the Ottomans for 400 years, fought a bloody 10 year war for independence, liberated a sliver of land with hardly any resources and you expected her to be an imperialist? First of all, you need a manufacturing base to produce weapons of war. Greece couldn’t produce boots or clothing for her soldiers. How was she going to be an imperial power? By buying ammunition and guns from France? Look at Italy. She became a nation 40 years after Greece. She grew big due to the European powers’ agreements. Then, she started manufacturing war material and expended to Lybia and the Dodecanese.
Bob – you have to get your facts right: Russia was INVADED by Sweden, France, Germany, etc – most of the times with the British help behind the scenes. Even right after the end of WW II in 1945 Churchill had a plan to use the DEFEATED German army, the Wermacht, to invade Russia! America “imported” not only the Nazi engineers for their missile and space program but also the Nazi general to plan the US Army. And also literally let the Nazis organize the CIA!! Why? Because the Nazi intelligence had already a vast network of spies in the Soviet Union.
So, after considering these facts, is anyone surprised where the “Russophobia” and the hatred for anything Russian came from? Thank God, their defeat will force the West to re-shape…

Arguing wars that happened over 200 years ago is irrelevant to today’s developments. Europe’s history is brimming with such wars. There’s no end to them. A country can’t move ahead if they dig back in history for grievances.
You’re absolutely correct that America used Nazi scientists for its nuclear program and rocket development. And you’re absolutely right about Churchill’s obsession with the USSR. WWII was a marriage of convenience for the West with the communists. They hated and distrusted each other a littler less than they hated and mistrusted the Nazis. . Hitler himself and Admiral Donitz hoped for a union of the Nazis with the West against Russia, towards the end of WWII, when Germany was at her last.
Truman and Eisenhouer put an end to that hope. Churchill at the time still had the colonial mentality, even though England was weakened. He had his own dreams of the British empire being revived. Truman wasn’t going to allow that, no matter what Churchill wanted.
Patton himself was ordered back home from Europe, because of his bellicose attitude towards the USSR. But we must understand that it was a struggle between two government systems that neither side wanted to abandon. The communist system eventually was defeated because it could not survive in the modern age. China is thriving because she’s capitalist with a dictatorial government. Just as Vietnam.
Wars are very relevant if for the last 400 years – almost once every century – Russia is invaded by the West for the same reason every time: stealing her wealth. All such wars had the same result: defeat for the West with the Russian Ary parading in Belin and Paris at least 3 times the last 200 years.
There are some constants in these wars. One example: the geniuses who lead the West never take into account the vast expanses of Russian geography – its so-called “strategic depth”. It was the same always – IT IS THE SAME IN THIS CURRENT WAR.

The EU hasn’t played all its cards yet. They do have at least one more card: Turkiye. The main argument in favor of Turkiye joining the EU is for “security purposes”, much like the argument the U.S. is making about acquiring Greenland. A collapse of NATO may be sufficient reason for the E.U. to resort to such desperate measure.
There is no Turkey card. Yesterday it was officially announced that China’s BYD will make a a $1 billion electric car factory in Turkey. The Turks will not blow up the two huge Russian gas pipelines to pretend they are fighting for “freedom”.
Sadly, it had to come to this. You make some good points, Nick. Historically, the west is always tried to keep Russia from actually being a part of Europe. There was always a fear of Russia. Let’s think about the Crimean war in the 1800s. The Turks hanged the ecumenical patriarch and Russia retaliated. And what did France and England, two Christian countries do? They went to war joining the Muslim Turks against the Christian Russians. All because they did not want Russia to advance into the Mediterranean. I’m sure there are many other examples, but if you look at the present situation, they oppose the Orthodox Church. I cannot see it any other way. Why? Because it goes against all of the liberal ideologies the western countries have embraced. I could be mistaken, but it’s hard not to see it that way.

No country worth their mettle would overlook her self-interest. England and France backed the Ottomans in the Crimea war because it was to their advantage as they saw it. It was important to them to keep Russia out of the Mediteranean than the Russian’s faith. Nothing unusual about. Moreover, the Orthodox were considered as barely Christian by the Western Europeans. The Christian faith was divided up to the time of troubles in Ireland, between Catholic and Protestant. If you were Catholic, you considered everyone else as doomed to eternal hell, as if they were Muslim. So, faith was a very minor factor in the power play of the time.
As for today’s divisions, you are correct. Russia is using religion as a dividing force between them and liberal Western Europe. Russians are using pride parades to justify the killing and maiming of hundreds of thousands in the past four years. The West is not opposed to religion per se. You can have any or none. As long as your faith is your business. You dont use religion to force your ideas to others. Which is what Russia is doing.

The Russian Federation initially thought that it could topple Kiev in three days, that Ukrainians would welcome them as liberators of the “Russian World”. That ideology has since shown itself to be a complete failure. The invasion has dragged on now for almost 4 years, and the Ukrainians remain, even today, undeterred in their resolve to continue defending their sovereignty and independence.
Russian forces initially occupied about 20 percent of Ukrainian territory in the 2022 invasion. That percentage has since fluctuated some, but it nonetheless remains about the same.
