The new political party was born on the birthday of Marthy, her daughter, lost at Tempi!! Many in the Greek-American community and the Diaspora are ready to support and participate in her movement. Hellas above corrupt families and political parties!!

Today is April Fool’s Day.
But in Greece, there is nothing ironic about this date anymore.
April 1st is also the birthday of Marthy—the daughter of Maria Karystianou—who was killed in the Tempi train disaster.
And this year, on a day marked by both remembrance and rupture, something else was born.
A political movement.
“Ξεκινάμε.” – “We Begin”
With a single word—We begin—Karystianou signaled her transition from public grief to political action.
The timing was deliberate.
The announcement came just hours after yet another interruption in the Tempi trial, and amid a broader climate of political strain. But above all, it came on the birthday of her daughter—a date that now carries both personal and collective weight.
As she wrote:
«Ξεκινάμε την πρώτη του μήνα για την πρωτιά στη δράση για ΑΛΗΘΕΙΑ και ΔΙΚΑΙΟΣΥΝΗ!» “We begin on the first day of the month, aiming to lead in action for TRUTH and JUSTICE!”
«Από το “Εγώ” στο “Εμείς”/ “From ‘I’ to ‘We’.”
From silence to speech
There is a line in her statement that captures the moment precisely:
«Υπάρχουν στιγμές στην ιστορία ενός τόπου που η σιωπή γίνεται πιο βαριά από την ίδια την αδικία.» / “There are moments in a nation’s history when silence becomes heavier than injustice itself.”
This, she suggests, is one of those moments.
Her movement, she insists, was not engineered in political offices:
«Το κίνημα αυτό δεν γεννήθηκε σε στείρους τόπους… αλλά μέσα στις καρδιές των ανθρώπων που αρνήθηκαν να συμβιβαστούν με το σάπιο.» /“This movement was not born in barren places… but in the hearts of people who refused to come to terms with what is rotten.”
It is a familiar claim—yet here it carries a different weight. Because the origin is not ideological. It is lived.
A movement takes shape
Through her announcement, Karystianou revealed not only the existence of the movement, but its direction—and its language.
It is built around three central pillars:
Αλήθεια. Δικαιοσύνη. Αξιοπρέπεια.
Truth. Justice. Dignity.
And it closes with a call that is less rhetorical than declarative:
“We begin today as an unbreakable HOPE…”
“WE BEGIN FOR HOPE.”
«Ξεκινάμε σήμερα ως μια αδιαπέραστη ΕΛΠΙΔΑ…»
«ΞΕΚΙΝΑΜΕ ΓΙΑ ΤΗΝ ΕΛΠΙΔΑ.»
Beyond politics
This is not, at least not yet, a conventional party.
It is the political expression of something that pre-existed it:
a network of grief, protest, and unresolved accountability.
What Karystianou is attempting is difficult—to translate moral authority into political structure without losing its force.
Whether that translation succeeds remains to be seen.
But the shift itself is undeniable.
A different April 1st
April Fool’s Day is typically about illusion.
But this year, in Greece, the day carried something else entirely:
Memory.
Pressure.
And a beginning.

Good luck to protesters for Tempi train tragedy — our hearts go out to them…. But a lot of folks I know will not be attending parade this year IF leaders in charge of parade once again, enforce separating the crowd from the parade ppl by creating huge distance via the metal bars. Nobody believes any Tempi protesters is out to be disruptive.
😢😢💔💔 Karystaniou is an amazing woman. I hope her moral compass aligns with a political ideology that can save Greece. I can’t wait to read more about it!
