By Nick Stamatakis

I got to know Pink Martini about ten years ago and, being the true lover of “oldies” that I happen to be, I immediately fell in love with the wide variety of their song selection and the languages they are performed in. Having learned English and French as a teenager using songs as a tool and having grown up in Greece in the 1960s, 1970s and early 1980s where Italian and particularly Spanish/Latin songs were widely liked and performed, I immediately enjoyed this “little orchestra that crosses several styles, such as classical, traditional pop, latin and jazz”.   To learn more about this very interesting band you can link here.  Since then I have attended three of their concerts – the last one was a beautiful summer night last year, at a magical place, the Pier 17 open theater at the South Street Seaport, featuring their main singer China Forbes, born and raised in New York…

For now, let’s enjoy a small selection of their best love songs… Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! In English, French, Spanish and Italian AND GREEK!… Towards the end the two songs in Italian, among the most romantic songs ever – in the Neapolitan dialect of Southern Italy!… I LEFT FOR LAST “NEVER ON SUNDAY” / ΤΑ ΠΑΙΔΙΑ ΤΟΥ ΠΕΙΡΑΙΑ PERFORMED LIVE IN THE LYCABBETUS THEATER IN ATHENS (2013)…
