PHOTO (Credit – iefimerida.gr / TNH): Nobody objects to these two lighting a candle – but they had no business visiting the only Orthodox High School in the country without the consent of the Parish Council!!
By Nick Stamatakis
Stephanos Kasselakis visited the St.Demetrios of Astoria parish and school, accompanied by his new spouse, Tyler Macbeth (!!), causing an uproar in the community. Parishioners, parents, and grandparents of students of the School called the Archdiocese all day long, protesting furiously about the visit. “What are we supposed to say to the kids? That Orthodoxy blesses homosexuality? Are you out of your mind?” was the common denominator of the calls. The brunt of the protests was against Fr. Gregory Stamkopoulos, who listened to the parents in an impromptu session in a closed room. “Do you want us to take our kids out of the School?” they told him. He had no answer except mumbling some excuses about the role of the Greek Consulate on the issue…
The same excuse about the Greek Consulate was given by Father Ilias Villis, the Chancellor of the Direct Archdiocesan District. “The Consulate organized it,” he explained – but nobody bought his explanation. Later on, he had the decency to apologize some parents told me.
“Last year GOARCH co-signed a $1,000,000 loan to help the Parish and the School”, one parent explained… “This year they will need to offer another $2 million if they want the school to survive”, he continued, expressing the overwhelming majority of opinions.
Meanwhile, we have learned from Florida that upon hearing that Kasselakis plans to visit Tarpon Springs for the October 28th celebration, the organizers were up in arms, sending him a clear message: “Don’t you dare come down here! You are not welcome in our Church and our parade!!

Greeks and in general all Orthodox Christians had better unite against this travesty…the consequences are too horrible to contemplate…but better than maintaining a church in name only…
Take all the kids out of school when these rude, insensitive heretics come.
They’re guilty of Moral Turpitude.
In the US, we have this little thing called separation of church and state. This dude and his “partner” are from another country which automatically should pre-empt them from ever crossing into a private school inside the United States to further their agenda. If parents are upset, they need to contact their Representatives as well as their priests!
The “elite” big monied greeks go for these displays… they still don’t “get” or pretend not to “get” the greeks in the middle–the 99.9%
The funny thing is that the Episcopalians flee and join the Greek Orthodox Church because of the new approach of their church about the LGBTQ! Δεν ήξεραν, δεν ρώταγαν;
Greeks must revolt against this clown!
Are we finally going to see protests from the laity against this? Helleniscope, Monomakhos and others can lead the charge on this.
Is “enough is enough” going to be when Elpi officiates a gay wedding in the Archdiocesan cathedral? Because I hate to tell you when that happens it’ll be too late. Things like this spread like wildfire.
Greeks are proving to be lazy about Church affairs & GOA villains know this
& get away with it!
What business does someone who “openly” lives a “new religion”- new belief system – that is “outside of the boundaries of Orthodoxy” even visiting an Orthodox church?
We really have to wonder sometimes what the Chancellor “feels” when he recites the Gospel reading about the sheep and the goats, specifically the quotes.. “but didn’t we do all these things in Your name?…” as well as the infamous phrase …οὐκ οἶδα ὑμᾶς
The comment “the Consulate organized it” oddly resembles an older Biblical phrase “it was the serpent that deceived me”, etc.. Without permission, how can an official Consulate “organize” anything on Church property? Please explain this to us. And even if that was the case, where is the formal written complaint to the Consulate about trespassing on Church / School property with clear intent for a “political photo-op” without permission, and not following proper protocol? This was intentional…not a private visit. Can someone ask the Consulate for their version of “who they called” to organize this? I am willing to bet the response will likely be quite entertaining…
{Note: the laypeople won’t forget which priest was an early champion of multiple-spoons [violation of διδαχαις ποικιλαις και ξεναις μη περιφερεσθε], with the first photographs of propaganda coming from his parish, and then some time later, he was interestingly promoted to Chancellor – (simple-minded folks on the street can’t help but wonder if this was a result of his “blind obedience” to a “2nd master”, perhaps…?)…what happened to the command that is recited during priestly Ordination when the Body of Christ is placed in the palm of the new priest – “guard this παρακαταθηκη with your life”?…Does anyone on this side of the Atlantic even understand or care what the word παρακαταθηκη really means these days? If yes, let’s see proof via some visible Orthopraxia…consider this:
What will these “blindly obedient” priests “feel” on Nov. 21st, when the Katavasies referencing the 3 youths in the furnace are chanted with the phrase “Δυσσεβους προσταγματος καταφρονησαντες”, and “πυρος απειλην ουκ επτοηθησαν”…? Perhaps there is a new theory that these words don’t also apply to clergy…that they are just for the laity? And yet, St. Mark of Ephesus taught us what is appropriate and Orthodox … “There can be no compromise in matters of the Orthodox Faith.”
You can build as many muscles as you want in a gym, but that won’t guarantee your survival in the spiritual arena, and no amount of muscles or physical strength can break open the gates of Heaven if they are shut for you…the days of priests deceiving the faithful are over…the Orthodox faithful can read traditional patristic books, too…it’s no longer the illiterate masses of the turkish occupation that you are dealing with…if you aren’t authentic, if you are not aligned with patristic tradition, if you are blindly following inappropriate commands of a bishop who is not “ορθοτομουντα τον λογον της Σης αληθειας”, you will not only present yourself like a compromiser, but you will also be questioned and held accountable by the faithful}.
We already know the archbishop’s views on tradition, so there’s no use commenting about him right now…
