A few days before enlisting in the Greek Army for his twenty days of service, Stephanos Kasselakis proclaimed in an interview to be a modern Orthodox and opposed the Metropolitan of Corfu (who was outspoken against same-sex marriage and threatened to excommunicate MPs who voted for the same-sex bill – link here) said that he plans to spend Easter there, go to Church and “if he wants he can kick me out!” At the same time, he praised Pat. Bartholomew saying he is a “symbol of love”!! (Link here for his statement – you can see part of the interview below).
Well. well, well… First let me start with the “symbol of love”, Patriarch Bartholomew… Dear Mr. Kasselakis, Pat. Bartholomew is anything but a “symbol of love” – he is a symbol of degeneracy. When five years ago, I offered to him proof of the degenerate Character of the Metropolitan of France Emmanuel (now Met. of Chalcedon and second-in-command at the Patriarchate) and his assistant in Paris (who spoke not one word of French), Bishop Maximos who had invited Bulgarian gay escorts in the building of the Metropolis in Paris, what did Bartholomew do? He promoted both of them!! The proof he could have in his hands was not just my word but a Paris Police report!! Yet he refused to demand it from the Police… Calling degeneracy “love” proves how shallow and how ignorant you are. Also, recently Pat.Bartholomew and his Holy Synod, were forced to express (belatedly) their opposition to same-sex marriage. Is he still a symbol of love?
As for you being a “modern Christian”, in your arrogance and self-centeredness you fail to grasp that humility is the top virtue in Christianity! True Christianity has not changed like clothing fashions over the centuries, so in one century, we wear “bell bottoms” and, in the following, straight pants. Christianity’s teachings are eternal. What you are is closer to paganism, much like Roman Emperor Nero, who reached the “modernity” of his time and married two men, once as a man and once as a woman!!… At the same time, he was violently prosecuting and executing true Christians for their faith!!

KASSELAKIS to Metropolitan: “I will come to the church in Corfu on Easter, come and take me out”!
In response to Kasselakis the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Corfu, Paxos, and the Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios made the following statement:
“We carefully read an interview on the Internet with the leader of the opposition, Mr. S. Kasselakis, who publicly expressed the desire to celebrate the traditional Corfu Easter on our island. Mr. Kasselakis even stated the following verbatim: “At Easter, I plan to go to Corfu, where the Metropolitan is waging a ‘war’ on same-sex couples. I will enter the church and let him come and take me out if he wants to…. I am an Orthodox, modern Christian; I don’t think I need any priest’s permission to enter a church. The first to show this is the Ecumenical Patriarch, a simple man who symbolizes love”.
Since Mr. Kasselakis publicly announces his wish, we also publicly respond to him:
First, Everyone is welcome on our hospitable island.
Second, The blessed Archbishop Christodoulos, when he addressed the young people and invited them to the Church, told them: “Come as you are”, following the words of Saint John Chrysostom (“On repentance”, Homil. H, 1 EPE 30,284-286), that whoever comes to the Church with the disposition to live her life, changes spiritually, because he allows himself to be transformed by Divine Grace. So we, too, since Mr. S. Kasselakis declares that he is religious, we hope that his entry into the Church and the repentance, which is inspired by the Grace of God as well as the life of faith, will transform him spiritually and lead him to way of salvation, as long as he knows that the religious person experiences the Mysteries of God’s Grace and participates in them and does not appear as a simple spectator, uninvolved in God’s Grace. God always accepts every sinner in repentance.
Thirdly, the Metropolitan does not make war on any man but prays, preaching the truth of the Gospel, for his repentance and that of all men.

Σ. Κασσελάκης δηλώνει ότι είναι θρησκευόμενος, ευελπιστούμε πως η είσοδός του στην Εκκλησία και η μετάνοια, την οποία εμπνέει η Χάρις του Θεού αλλά και η ζωή της πίστεως, θα τον μεταποιήσουν πνευματικά και θα τον οδηγήσουν στην οδό της σωτηρίας, αρκεί να γνωρίζει ο ίδιος ότι ο θρησκευόμενος άνθρωπος βιώνει τα Μυστήρια της Χάριτος του Θεού και μετέχει σ’ αυτά και δεν παρίσταται ως απλός θεατής, αμέτοχος στην Χάρη του Θεού. Κάθε αμαρτωλό ο Θεός τον δέχεται πάντα εν μετανοία.
Τρίτον: Ο Μητροπολίτης δεν κάνει πόλεμο σε κανέναν άνθρωπο, αλλά προσεύχεται, κηρύττοντας την αλήθεια του Ευαγγελίου, για την μετάνοια τόσο τη δική του όσο και όλων των ανθρώπων».

It’s interesting that the “pride of Crete” claims the metropolitan is waging war against the “alphabet soup” community, but he stops short of labeling himself a Θεομαχος for the following reasons:
a) not accepting that God made man and woman for a purpose,
b) promoting an ungodly law, colluding with Mitsotakis to impose it upon a majority that didn’t want it, and bullying folks to “vote it or ruin their political careers” instead of respecting free will,
c) ignoring all Old and New Testament crystal clear references about this “alphabet soup” subject,
d) not accepting how God made him (we Orthodox do not believe the heretical secular narrative that “God makes people gay”, because that redefines the definition and understanding of sin, and defaults to a conclusion where God is “responsible” for the sin and action, and not the sinner…and of course, that’s not what we believe). This is an important point, because these “alphabet soup” activists complain that the majority of society doesn’t accept them, when in fact it is they who have the acceptance problem…they don’t accept how God created them to begin with, and they throw militant tantrums when an ecclesiastical authority dares to tell the simple truth.
e) not subjecting himself to ecclesiastical authority, dogma, teaching, or rule of governance, but speaking in a threatening and rebellious tone…in most places, if you don’t follow the rules you are thrown out, whether that be a school, a restaurant, a public park, etc…why is this any different?

There is a point at which God will intervene, like God intervened when St. Mary of Egypt was not able to enter the Church in Jerusalem because she kept on getting thrown out by an invisible force…that’s the “repentance level” that the Metropolitan’s response is referring to…
We must not forget that this is St. Spyridon’s island, and St. Spyridon has a history of miraculous activity on his island and beyond…
Perhaps even the citizens of Kerkyra might decide to model their reception of Kasselakis along the lines of which the citizens of Lesvos “received” the riot police that were sent by Mitsotakis in 2019, when the citizens were protesting expansion of illegal immigration camps on their island and Mitsotakis arrogantly ignored them…

All those who voted in favour of the same sex marriage law and their right to adopt children should have been excommunicated on the spot. If they want to go to chit, first they need to make a public confession of their error and then a prone in front of a priest. Kasselakis is playing games with the Church now to make her look weak. If he is such a “man” why doesn’t he serve a full term in the army instead of just 20 days, and then volunteer himself in the Russian-Ukrainian war? I’d like to see which side he picks.

Metropolitan Nektarios will definitely NOT cast him out of the church. HOWEVER…. if Kasselakis dares to receive Holy Communion, the question is, will the Metropolitan give it to him? Is Kasselakis going to be so bold as to approach the Chalice because he feels that it is his “right” as an “an Orthodox, modern Christian” (what the hell does that even MEAN, anyway?) to do so? After all, he is living in sin and has not gone to confession and is probably not under the guidance of a spiritual father. (Yeah, I’d bet a paycheck on that…)
