EDITOR’S NOTE: I came across a fascinating post, dated April 3rd, 2018, Holy Tuesday.  President Putin was visiting Turkey. He picked up the phone and called Pat. Bartholomew thanked him for several things: His facilitating many visits to Mt.Athos, the permit to have a chapel of St.Andrew in the building of the Russian Embassy in Ankara, etc.  The Patriarch congratulated Putin on his re-election… What a difference six years makes…

We heard from Russian sources that Pope Francis congratulated Putin for his recent victory – but this news has not yet been verified by the Vatican. As for Pat. Bartholomew, he is dealing with a stupendous disaster, after the West’s defeat in Ukraine.  Not only his “Cacocephaly” is rendered useless, not only he caused the death and destruction of so many Orthodox Churches and the persecution of so many faithful, but he is sitting on the ashes of World Orthodoxy, and soon, he will have to account for his mistakes either to a Panorthodox Council or to the Almighty…

Telephone communication between Putin and Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew

The President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, had a telephone conversation with the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew last night, from Ankara, where he is making an official visit.

Mr. Putin thanked His Holiness for the congratulatory wishes addressed to him on the occasion of his re-election as President of the Russian Federation and also, for his efforts in favor of the unity of Orthodoxy, for the Canonical permission granted by the Ecumenical Patriarchate to A chapel of Saint Andrew was built in the grounds of his country’s embassy in Ankara, as well as for the reception he received during his two visits to Mount Athos.

He made special reference to the respect of the Russian people towards the Mother Church of Constantinople, after Prince Vladimir and his people received Christian baptism from her, which is, as the President said, an event of great historical importance.

Furthermore, Mr. Putin conveyed to the Ecumenical Patriarch the fraternal greetings of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and His Beatitude’s readiness to strengthen the relations between the two Churches. Finally, he wished His Holiness a happy Easter.

The Ecumenical Patriarch wished President Putin and the Russian people a Happy Resurrection, and expressed his condolences for the recent tragic accident in Kemerovo, Siberia.

He then repeated his congratulations on the President’s electoral victory and the support he provides to the Orthodox Church and underlined that the Ecumenical Patriarchate will continue to fulfill its ex officio coordinating role in favor of pan-Orthodox unity.

He also added that the Patriarchate takes care, in accordance with its canonical and pastoral responsibility, to satisfy the spiritual and religious needs of the Russian Orthodox believers who are settled in Turkey.

The two leaders, during their cordial conversation, also mentioned other issues of mutual interest, while President Putin expressed the hope that, during his next visit to Turkey, he will have the opportunity to visit the See of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

Τηλεφωνική επικοινωνία Πούτιν με τον Οικουμενικό Πατριάρχη Βαρθολομαίο

Τηλεφωνική επικοινωνία με τον Οικουμενικό Πατριάρχη Βαρθολομαίο είχε χθες το βράδυ ο Πρόεδρος της Ρωσικής Ομοσπονδίας Βλαντιμίρ Πούτιν, από την Άγκυρα, όπου πραγματοποιεί επίσημη επίσκεψη.

Ο κ. Πούτιν ευχαρίστησε τον Παναγιότατο για τις συγχαρητήριες ευχές, που του απηύθυνε με την ευκαιρία της επανεκλογής του ως Προέδρου της Ρωσικής Ομοσπονδίας και επίσης, για τις προσπάθειές του υπέρ της ενότητας της Ορθοδοξίας, για την Κανονική άδεια που χορήγησε το Οικουμενικό Πατριαρχείο για να κτιστεί παρεκκλήσιο του Αγίου Ανδρέου στον περίβολο της πρεσβείας της χώρας του στην Άγκυρα, καθώς και για την υποδοχή που του επιφυλάχθηκε κατά τις δύο επισκέψεις του στο Άγιον Όρος.

Ακόμα, ο κ. Πούτιν μετέφερε στον Οικουμενικό Πατριάρχη τον αδελφικό χαιρετισμό του Πατριάρχου Μόσχας και πάσης Ρωσίας Κυρίλλου και την ετοιμότητα του Μακαριότατου για την σύσφιξη των σχέσεων των δύο Εκκλησιών. Τέλος, ευχήθηκε στον Παναγιότατο ευφρόσυνο Άγιο Πάσχα.

Στη συνέχεια, επανέλαβε τα συγχαρητήριά του για την εκλογική νίκη του Προέδρου και για τη στήριξη που παρέχει στην Ορθόδοξη Εκκλησία και υπογράμμισε ότι το Οικουμενικό Πατριαρχείο θα συνεχίσει να εκπληρώνει τον εκ της θέσεώς του συντονιστικό του ρόλο υπέρ της πανορθοδόξου ενότητος.

Πρόσθεσε, επίσης, ότι το Πατριαρχείο φροντίζει, σύμφωνα με την Κανονική και ποιμαντική του ευθύνη, για την ικανοποίηση των πνευματικών και θρησκευτικών αναγκών και των ρωσικής καταγωγής Ορθοδόξων πιστών, οι οποίοι είναι εγκατεστημένοι στην Τουρκία.

Οι δύο ηγέτες, κατά την εγκάρδια συνομιλία τους, αναφέρθηκαν και σε άλλα θέματα αμοιβαίου ενδιαφέροντος, ενώ ο πρόεδρος Πούτιν εξέφρασε την ελπίδα ότι, σε άλλη επίσκεψή του στην Τουρκία, θα έχει την ευκαιρία να επισκεφθεί την Έδρα του Οικουμενικού Πατριαρχείου.
