EDITOR’S NOTE (Nick Stamatakis): There has been much commotion in Greece over the last few days regarding Mareva Grabowski’s (Mitsotakis’s wife) defamation lawsuit against Syriza MP Elena Akrita. Mareva has been following her husband on numerous public visits with foreign leaders, and her business has benefited from her husband’s position and high profile.  But when it comes to criticism, she “wants out,” and she files unsubstantiated lawsuits against a member of the parliament!!  “If you cannot take the heat, get out of the kitchen,” as the saying goes… A plain look at the photos in this post will convince you of the role she is allowed to play in the prime minister’s life.  Other prime ministers are married, some with lovely and personable wives.  But they do not tag them along in every state visit imaginable…  From every country in Europe to India, to Egypt, Canada, Israel and everywhere else…

Mareva is out of criticism…

Mareva Grabovski not only participates in the prime minister’s discussions with foreign leaders and decides on policy on matters completely unrelated to her duties, which is trade and increasing her personal wealth. The prime minister’s wife has a say – and, in fact, a decisive one – for expanding and upgrading the National Archaeological Museum!

Kyriakos Mitsotakis himself confessed this in his speech at the National Archaeological Museum (on February 15, 2023), where, among other things, he said:

“I need to thank my wife Mareva, who quietly and without ever claiming any prominence, has been the heart of this great effort.”

When he encounters difficulties and needs to divert the opposition’s arrows, he himself declares that he does not want his wife and his family involved in the political confrontation and the control that the opposition and the media have over the government.

Mr. Mitsotakis forgot, of course, that he was the one who put his family “in the frame” of his power, with dozens of photos he posts on the internet, with meetings with foreign leaders where the Mitsotakis participate as a family – such as the lunch with the Netanyahus in Israel, were he went with his wife and son.

Mr. Mitsotakis may also have forgotten that during his prime ministership the clothing company founded by his wife undertook to design the uniforms of the taxi drivers and the children’s choir of the National Opera. Of course, Mareva Grabovski’s distance from politics is such that the pro-government media, along with the hymns to the prime minister, do not fail to write articles in her favor, describing her as elegant.

They think the prime minister’s arguments about his wife, whom he interjects in public affairs, are funny. Those in power are also accountable for those close to her. In the US, even the faces of politicians’ wives are commented on, and in France, they are debating whether Brigitte Macron was born a man…

In short, it is not enough for Caesar’s wife to be honest but also to appear honest, even if Caesar is Nero, Commodus, or Heliogabalus.

Η Μαρέβα εκτός κριτικής…

Η Μαρέβα Γκραμπόφσκι όχι μόνο συμμετέχει στις συζητήσεις του πρωθυπουργού με ξένους ηγέτες, αλλά αποφασίζει για την άσκηση πολιτικής σε θέματα παντελώς άσχετα με το αντικείμενό της, το οποίο είναι το εμπόριο και η αύξηση της προσωπικής περιουσίας της. Η πρωθυπουργική σύζυγος έχει λόγο -και, μάλιστα, καθοριστικό- για την… επέκταση και την αναβάθμιση του Εθνικού Αρχαιολογικού Μουσείου!

Αυτό ομολόγησε ο ίδιος ο Κυριάκος Μητσοτάκης σε ομιλία του στο Εθνικό Αρχαιολογικό Μουσείο (στις 15 Φεβρουαρίου 2023), όπου, μεταξύ άλλων, είπε:

«Αισθάνομαι την ανάγκη σήμερα να ευχαριστήσω και προσωπικά τη σύζυγό μου Μαρέβα, η οποία αθόρυβα και χωρίς να διεκδικήσει ποτέ οποιαδήποτε προβολή, υπήρξε η καρδιά αυτής της μεγάλης προσπάθειας».

Ο ίδιος, όταν τα βρίσκει σκούρα και επιδιώκει να πετάξει την μπάλα στην εξέδρα, δηλώνει ότι δεν θέλει να αναμειγνύουν τη γυναίκα του και την οικογένειά του στην κομματική αντιπαράθεση και στον έλεγχο που οφείλουν να κάνουν στην κυβέρνηση η αντιπολίτευση και τα ΜΜΕ.

Λησμόνησε, βέβαια, ο κ. Μητσοτάκης ότι ο ίδιος βάζει «στο κάδρο» της εξουσίας του την οικογένειά του, με δεκάδες φωτογραφίες που αναρτά στο διαδίκτυο, με συναντήσεις με ξένους ηγέτες όπου οι μητσοτάκηδες συμμετέχουν οικογενειακώς – όπως στο γεύμα με τους Νετανιάχου στο Ισραήλ, που πήγε μαζί με τη γυναίκα και τον γιο του.

Ο κ. Μητσοτάκης ίσως επίσης να… ξέχασε ότι επί πρωθυπουργίας του η εταιρία ρούχων που ίδρυσε η γυναίκα του ανέλαβε να σχεδιάσει τις στολές των ταξιθετριών και της παιδικής χορωδίας της Εθνικής Λυρικής Σκηνής. Φυσικά, είναι τέτοια η απόσταση της Μαρέβας Γκραμπόφσκι από την πολιτική, ώστε τα φιλοκυβερνητικά ΜΜΕ δεν παραλείπουν μαζί με τους ύμνους στον πρωθυπουργό να αρθρογραφούν υπέρ της, χαρακτηρίζοντάς την υπέρκομψη.

Φαντάζουν αστεία τα επιχειρήματα του πρωθυπουργού για τη σύζυγό του, την οποία ο ίδιος ανακατεύει στα δημόσια πράγματα. Οσοι εξουσιάζουν, λογοδοτούν και για τους οικείους της. Στις ΗΠΑ σχολιάζονται ακόμα και οι γκριμάτσες των συζύγων των πολιτικών και στη Γαλλία συζητούν αν η Μπριζίτ Μακρόν γεννήθηκε άνδρας…

Κοντολογίς, η σύζυγος του καίσαρα δεν αρκεί να είναι τίμια, αλλά και να φαίνεται τίμια. Ακόμα και αν καίσαρας είναι ο Νέρων, ο Κόμμοδος ή ο Ηλιογάβαλος.
