EDITOR’S NOTE (Nick Stamatakis).  For many days and weeks we are watching unfolding before our eyes a very strange story, the intervention of the Mitsotakis government and the Patriarchate where they should not be involved: In the election of the Megtropolitan of Kydonia (Chania) of the Autocephalous Church of Crete. The Church of Crete operates as a semi-autonomous body under the jurisdiction of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. While it manages its internal affairs, including the nomination of bishops, the Patriarchate retains significant influence, particularly in the appointment of the Archbishop of Crete. The Greek state also plays a role by preparing a list of candidates for the archbishopric, from which the Patriarchate selects the appointee.

But neither the Patriarchate nor the Greek Government have the right to intervene in the election of a metropolitan in Crete. The recent conflict centers on the election of the Metropolitan of Chania. Tensions escalated when the newly elected Archbishop of Crete, Eugenios II, reportedly sidelined Metropolitan Amfilochios of Kissamos, who had been a prominent figure within the Church of Crete. Amfilochios had actively lobbied for Metropolitan Amfilochios of Kissamos to be elected as Archbishop, opposing the Patriarchate’s preference for Eugenios. This opposition was perceived as a direct challenge to the Patriarchate’s authority, leading to Amfilochios of Adrianople’s resignation.

But in our case, the Mitsotakis “Mafia Family”, who operated for generations a network of illegal activities in Crete and particularly around Chania, has a hand in putting obstacles in the election of Amphilochios. The “Family”, which started its ascent to power by cooperating with the German occupying forces during WW II, when Constantine Mitsotakis worked as an interpreter for the Gestapo in Chania, was obviously “pressured” by the German government.  Why? Because the German Government does NOT, still today, 80 years from “Victory Day”, recognize ANY of the War reparations and hundreds of billions of remunerations owed to Greece for the utter destruction inflicted upon the country by the brutal occupying forces.  They destroyed ALL infrastructure, they burnt to the ground hundreds of towns, and they executed tens of thousands of Greeks.

Metropolitan Amphilohios last summer welcomed the German President in Crete by reminding him that despite the WWII unpunished destruction by the Germans in Greece, in the financial crisis of 2015, they destroyed the country for one more time in order to save their banks!!   Helleniscope had posted the video of Amphilochios’ Speech last summer – here it is again:

The Mitsotakis Mafia Family is still today tied to the Germans.  Some years ago, the now prime minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis was proven to have received “free gifts” from the German multinational Siemens, while the whole Family is “on the take” in various forms. So the German government issued their complaints and the TRAITORS obliged. They are doing everything possible to undermine the election of Aphilochios as the new Metropolitan of Chania…

If this is true, then we are lost.

I only add the “if” to calm myself down, given that ” Democracy ” is absolutely reliable in everything it claims.

This is the Metropolitan of Kissamos and Selinos, Amfilochias, who had saved our national honor during Steinmeier ‘s visit to Kandano, reminding him of the crimes of the Nazis, as well as the unpaid German debts ( My article on 21.11.2024 in Newsbreak ).

However, it seems that the dignified and patriotic attitude of the Metropolitan , who in November 2024 had gathered general admiration, displeased Steinmeier , who felt humiliated. And, as it turns out, he complained to many sides. Complaints to the extent that it is wrongly argued that we should forget the past and look to the future. To the extent that it is naively believed that the Germans (together with the Turks) are our friends and that we should not be hard-hearted towards them. But also to the extent that, in general, it is considered that we should forget everything that martyred our people and destroyed our country, and (cheerfully) rewrite our history.

Because, therefore, the Metropolitan of Kissamos put before everything else, as every Greek should, the need to render elementary justice and eternal memory to the souls of the martyred victims. And because, moreover, he dared to cauterize the indecency and indignity of the Germans, who refuse to pay their enormous and complex occupation debt to Greece, this caused a multi-layered storm, with him himself struggling with the waves. As a result, a new interpretation of the law is being forged from above, based on which the pre-existing right of transfer to the Metropolis of Kydonia, where he is ardently desired by all sides, is being taken away from the Greek Metropolitan of Kissamos. And in order to enshrine this prohibition, which contradicts a previous situation in which this form of transposition was permissible, the permissibility of the transposition is urgently abolished, by a special amendment, and in an unrelated bill.

But, after all, who are we and whose interests are we defending? How far can this inexplicable decline of everything still sink? Is there a limit to the trapdoor?
