No One Has the Right to Alter the Orthodox Mindset — Not Even the Patriarch! The Church Belongs to No Man!

It is no longer rare for us, the faithful, to look with sadness upon the deviations taking place in the life of the Church—not from the ignorant or enemies of Orthodoxy, but even from its own shepherds.

The occasion for this commentary was the Ecumenical Patriarch’s presence at an “ecumenical prayer” in Uppsala Cathedral, together with heterodox “clergy” and political officials, including female “priests.”

This was the final act of apostasy. The official face of a shameless spiritual betrayal, now shown without shame, without disguise—through photographs, handshakes, embraces, and joint prayers of convenience in the temples of heretics.

And tragically, the leading figure in this nightmarish event was none other than the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. No longer as the “first among equals,” but as a sorrowful symbol of surrender to Ecumenism—the pan-heresy that flattens everything, that recognizes everything, so long as it pleases the West, the diplomats, and the leaders of this world.

What do we see in the photos? A woman “priest” in vestments, standing reverently behind the Patriarch, in common prayer—smiles and photographs together. This is not only a co-prayer but recognition: recognition not only of her supposed “priesthood” but of the distorted and blasphemous “church system” she represents.

Where is the voice of the Fathers? Where is the anathema against heresy? Where is the memory of the First Ecumenical Council—whose 1700th anniversary we claim to “celebrate” this year? Has this “anniversary” become just another excuse to forget the Fathers’ decisions, to deny the line of the Saints, and to raise the cup of false unity over the tomb of Truth?

Why all this theater? What is the spiritual purpose of such gatherings, and why must the Patriarch himself be present? Could he not have simply sent a representative?

Is this the way to honor the 1700 years since the First Ecumenical Council—where the Fathers boldly stood against heresy and defined the Creed of our Faith? Or is it just another cheap public-relations show wrapped in European “tolerance”?

The Patriarch may be said to “represent Orthodoxy.” But Orthodoxy is not diplomacy. Orthodoxy is not worldly politeness. It is not smiles for cameras. It is a Confession of Faith.

And when the Patriarch stands in his archpastoral mantle and staff beside—or even a few steps before—a female cleric in a blue vestment, together with this whole crowd of heterodox, the image is not merely a “snapshot.” It is a declaration. It is acceptance. It is compromise. And, forgive me, in our eyes it looks like betrayal.

Why, Your All-Holiness?

Who gave us the right to pray together with those who reject the fullness of Truth? Why must the Patriarch go himself? If it was so important, why not send a delegate? For when you pray with them, you are not merely respecting them—you are recognizing them, granting them spiritual legitimacy and authority.

The Church will not be saved by diplomacy. It will not be saved by “good image.” Only the Truth saves. And that Truth is being abandoned daily in the name of a false unity—an ecumenist hybrid with no relation to the Light of Christ.

This is not an “error.” It is a deliberate strategy of altering the Faith. A plan to secularize the Church. They do not care about Orthodoxy—they care only about pleasing politicians, European progressives, and ecumenical organizations. The Church is being turned into an NGO of religious tourism, while hierarchs become conference speakers and photo-op hosts.

Those who participate in and applaud such acts lead the people into spiritual confusion. They scandalize the faithful. They breed fanaticism and division.

It is time to say it clearly: we will not follow this path. We will not betray the Tradition of our Fathers just to be liked by the world. The Church does not need to be “popular”—it needs to be faithful to Christ and the legacy of the Holy Fathers.

Being Patriarch does not give one the right to distort the Orthodox spirit for the sake of high-level contacts or public relations. The Church belongs to no man. It belongs to Christ. To Him alone we owe obedience.

But who among the hierarchs dares to tell this to the Patriarch? They fear him! Those who voice even polite disagreement are targeted and blacklisted. That is why dependent bishops are chosen—so no one dares to say, “Where are you going? What are you doing?”

The great spiritual figures of the past are gone. Previous Patriarchs never acted this way. The history of the Phanar shows a very different spirit. Sadly, things have gone astray.

Yet we continue to respect the venerable center. But we will not remain silent. We will speak of what troubles us, and we will denounce what is wrong. And we will never bow before the beast of the New Age.

Without pretending to be saints, we will remain faithful to Orthodoxy—the Faith of the Saints, the Faith of the Martyrs. And we will proclaim it and write it, at any cost.

For us, the Lord’s words say it all:
“If anyone would come after Me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me.”
