But questions remain. Old clips from Fox News have resurfaced, with Guilfoyle branding Greeks “freeloaders” during the debt crisis. Retiring too early, living on entitlements — that was her line then. How will the Greek public react now? Will these words undermine her credibility as she presents her credentials in Athens?
The Trump Administration clearly views this as a high-profile posting. Guilfoyle arrives with media power, political clout, and direct ties to the President. For Greece, this means a visible and well-connected figure will represent Washington. But it also means every move, every statement, will be watched closely.

“Freeloaders”…interesting choice of words…However, when someone exhibits a life-long pattern of “befriending” or “marrying” the rich, powerful, and famous in a manner that seems to result in personal benefit and notoriety, what epithet would best-describe such an individual? Should fit in quite well into the Greek political landscape, though…
Give her a break—at least she actually worked: teacher, attorney, campaign leader. That’s more than can be said for the genuine freeloaders who live off the state.
As for Greece, let’s be fair—and let’s inform her of the facts. Yes, at one time Greek politicians promised full pensions after only 15 years of work. So her comment contains a kernel of truth, but only as a reflection of those unsustainable promises.
What she clearly doesn’t understand (and should be made aware) is the bigger picture: the real freeloaders in Europe—perhaps in the world—are the Germans, followed closely by other European nations, who have systematically exploited U.S. trade and markets while still refusing to honor their World War II debts.
