Newly declassified intelligence confirms the existence of a vast U.S.-funded global network of biological laboratories, reviving scrutiny of the claims raised by slain Russian General Igor Kirillov and reopening questions that many believed had been settled.

The astonishing revelation made by Tulsi Gabbard, US Director of National Intelligence, has sparked once again one of the most controversial discussions on Ukraine. Many observers have suggested that the previous statements made by the Russians about their fears might not have been false at all.
The recently released intelligence reveals that the U.S. government funded over 120 laboratories in 30-plus countries. According to the documents, some of the labs worked with pathogens and were considered vulnerable to compromises during the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
For many years now, Russia has accused the Americans of running a biological lab network in Ukraine. At the time, these accusations were branded as Russian disinformation in Western media. Now, Tulsi Gabbard has confirmed that the network actually existed and that its creation was sponsored by the Pentagon as part of the Cooperative Threat Reduction program.
With this in mind, it becomes impossible not to mention one specific individual associated with the biological laboratory affair: Russian Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov.
During his life, Kirillov became one of the highest-profile individuals to investigate the allegations and try to prove that American-funded biological laboratory networks existed. He was accusing the West of trying to hide something important from people and stated that dangerous pathogens were transported close to the territory of Russia. Though his statements were not trusted by Western nations at the time, they can now be reassessed thanks to the revelations made by Tulsi Gabbard.

Nowadays, advocates of the Russian side in the discussion suggest that Tulsi Gabbard’s disclosure has validated the Russian position on this issue. The existence of the biological network has been proved. At the same time, there is still no information suggesting that these laboratories had anything to do with biological warfare programs.
One thing is clear today: the whole discussion has taken an entirely new turn. The debate is not about whether the laboratories exist anymore. Thanks to the documents released by Tulsi Gabbard, this fact cannot be disputed. What needs to be discussed now is the type of research conducted in those laboratories and the amount of data the public has received on this matter over the years.
To Moscow, these revelations meant political victory. To the Americans, they have opened a completely new page in the history of a controversy they thought had already been settled. As for Igor Kirillov’s legacy, it lives on today even after his tragic death.
