Below you can read a brief report of the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in Silicon Valley, an area he was very familiar with from his graduate sturdies at Stanford. Characteristially, he was asked a few querstions about that time and who was present at his garduation… Only his “mommy” was there – his Dad was busy at the time making sure that the Name of Macedonia will be forgotten forever. But his mother, Marika during his two years at Stanford, his mother Marika thought it would be a good idea to buy him a luxury villa at posh Palo Alto (costing then $600-700,000!!!today valued at many millions), Greek-Americans of the surrounding community reported. The villa had a swimming pool and all kinds of luxuries so that Kyriakos could enjoy life around San Francisco… Can anyone raised in such privilege EVER identify with ordinary Greek people? Here is the fresh air this son of privilege – who never achieeved abnything on his own in his life – accomplished in his recent visit to Stanford / Siliicon Valley…
Mitsotakis Courts Silicon Valley on AI, Investment and Greece’s Tech Ambitions
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis spent September 21–22 in the San Francisco Bay Area, making technology and investment the focus of the California leg of his U.S. visit. His schedule included meetings at Nvidia, Tesla and venture-capital firm Sequoia Capital, as well as discussions with Greek and Greek-American technology entrepreneurs. At Nvidia, talks covered AI and Greece’s expanding digital and computing infrastructure, while the Sequoia meeting brought together investors, researchers and founders working in areas including medicine, education, automation and robotics.
At an Endeavor Greece event in San Francisco, Mitsotakis described the trip as both an outreach effort and a fact-finding mission. He said he wanted to strengthen links between Greece and the substantial Greek technology community in the Bay Area, while presenting Greece as a potential location for investment, hiring and technology development. The discussion also ranged beyond investment promotion: Mitsotakis spoke about the potential displacement of jobs by AI, the difficulties governments face in keeping pace with the technology, and the eventual need for what he described as “smart regulation.”
The California visit concluded at Stanford University, where Mitsotakis — himself a Stanford alumnus — participated in a Hoover Institution discussion alongside former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. There he presented the government’s view of Greece’s economic transformation and outlined priorities looking toward 2030, including continued economic growth, measures addressing inequality and social policy, and strengthening Greece’s international position.
Overall, the visit linked Greece’s investment diplomacy with its emerging AI and technology strategy. Rather than announcing one major Silicon Valley investment, the meetings appeared primarily aimed at building relationships with technology companies, venture investors and the Greek diaspora, while positioning Greece as a possible European base for technology activity and talent. The California stop preceded Mitsotakis’s trip to New York for meetings connected with the UN General Assembly.
