The future of Kimberly Guilfoyle as U.S. ambassador to Greece is under serious scrutiny, with President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio reportedly considering her removal after a growing series of allegations about her conduct. According to an Associated Press report published on October 11, senior administration officials have expressed mounting frustration over the controversy, and a decision on her diplomatic future could come as early as this week.
The development marks a significant escalation in a controversy that has been building since late September. Until recently, the administration publicly backed Guilfoyle, a former television personality and close Trump family associate who was previously engaged to Donald Trump Jr. However, successive investigations by The Wall Street Journal have placed her diplomatic activities, business relationships and personal financial dealings under intense scrutiny.
New allegations regularly reach Helleniscope daily, including a story about Petros Marafatsos, Christos Maraftasos’ brother, whose US construction company allegedly received a substantial amount to renovate Ambassador Guilfoyle’s residence.
A senior American official, speaking anonymously to the Associated Press, described both Trump and Rubio as extremely angry about the reported conduct. Rubio was said to be particularly frustrated because the controversy intensified during his visit to Athens last week, when Guilfoyle accompanied him to official engagements and publicly demonstrated their close working relationship.
The contrast between Rubio’s public statements and the latest reporting is especially striking. On October 7, he described Guilfoyle as a strong ambassador. The next day, confronted with fresh allegations, he refused to address their substance, arguing that unverified media reports should not automatically be treated as established facts. Now, according to AP, the administration is actively considering her possible dismissal at the highest levels.
Meanwhile, the State Department’s inspector general is reportedly examining the accusations, although it remains unclear whether a formal investigation has begun. Senior Democratic lawmakers in Congress have also called for scrutiny of her conduct, adding institutional pressure to an increasingly sensitive personnel decision.
As of October 11, however, no one has officially announced a dismissal, and Guilfoyle remains ambassador. What has changed is that her possible removal has moved from political speculation to reported deliberations inside the administration, leaving her diplomatic future increasingly uncertain.
