EDITOR’S NOTE. Regarding Ecumenism and Pan-Religion, we thought we had seen everything with establishing the Abrahamic Temple in Abu Dhabi, where Patriarch Bartholomew is an active participant. We were wrong!! A week or so ago, Bishop Athenagoras (Zeliaskopoulos) of Nazianzos, obviously following orders, decided to participate in the consecration – YES, CONSECRATION – of the biggest Hindu Temple in America in New Jersey… There are no excuses for such an abomination – none at all… Yes, those of us who know a bit of history are aware of the old connection of Christianity with Hinduism and Buddhism (it’s a very interesting history to read how monasticism made its way to India from the Middle East, where it was born…) But it is egregious for an Orthodox Bishop to take part in the Hinduistic consecration… It’s the definition of heresy… Nothing surprises us anymore – nothing that comes from the Constantinople Patriarchate. But we are certain that their divine punishment is just around the corner…

“Great Is Diana of the Ephesians!”
Folks, this is something I didn’t want to see pop up in my email yesterday morning. But pop up it did (thanks to SJ).
Having said that, it’s also something I didn’t want to bring to your attention. Not on a Sunday. That’s when we try to step back and honor the Lord. So I waited for Church to be over. Why? Because I found it disturbing.
So, what’s with the title? Originally, I wanted to go with, “The GOA Continues Its Downward Trajectory,” but at this point, that would be like shooting fish in a barrel. Instead, I held off and the entire time I was at Church, all I could think about was this passage from the Book of Acts 24-29:
At least she has her eggs all in one place.
And about that time there arose a great commotion about the Way. 24 For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, who made silver shrines of Diana, brought no small profit to the craftsmen. 25 He called them together with the workers of similar occupation, and said: “Men, you know that we have our prosperity by this trade. 26 Moreover you see and hear that not only at Ephesus, but throughout almost all Asia, this Paul has persuaded and turned away many people, saying that they are not gods which are made with hands. 27 So not only is this trade of ours in danger of falling into disrepute, but also the temple of the great goddess Diana may be despised and [f]her magnificence destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worship.” 28 Now when they heard this, they were full of wrath and cried out, saying, “Great is Diana of the Ephesians!” 29 So the whole city was filled with confusion, and rushed into the theater with one accord…
Acts 19:28 is the kill shot.
But this is egregious. His Grace Bishop Athenagoras of Nazianzen (another extinct diocese somewhere within the borders of “The New Rome”), represented the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese at the “consecration” of America’s largest Hindu temple in New Jersey. Here
The word “consecration” is one of the most impactful words in the Church. It’s the act of declaring something sacred. Like declaring bread and wine are the body and blood of Christ. Or in this case, declaring this idol (photo below) is sacred:
I think God has allowed these heretical hierarchs to fall so low so that the faithful will have no shadow of a doubt that they have gone completely astray and should NEVER be followed. I can’t wait for the false union with Rome in 2025 so that we can all legitimately go our separate ways; so that the remnant can get together and have a proper ecumencial council and so that we can say goodbye once and for all to this circus. Maranatha! Come, Lord Jesus!
Rita I think you are spot on! But in this case the faithful remnant will be 90%plus of the Church. It will be a small and sad crowd standing with Black Bart and Elpidokontos.
The photo is sufficient to bring up this “wolf in sheepskin” on spiritual charges, and have him defrocked. Plenty of Canons have been violated here. The problem is, that nowadays, many of the ones who “judge” on the spiritual court should also be defrocked, and the old Greek village “law of the crows” applies, where “a crow never extracts the eye of another crow…”
Let’s see a couple bolder Orthodox jurisdictions declare this guy a heretic, and cease concelebrations with him. That would be an appropriate response right now.
The best thing people can do is not show up anywhere this “compromiser” shows up…
I have yet to see this happen. I’ve seen bishops make statements rejecting heretical/non-Orthodox teachings espoused by other hierarchs but never naming the culprits.
Is this a joke??? Maybe this is a copy and paste fake photograph of Bishop Athenagoras where Athenagoras’ body is inserted in the middle with a bunch of dot heads just to get our attention? I mean seriously, when a Christian Greek Orthodox Church embraces the false teachings Hinduism, Buddhism, Pilates, Yoga and Transcendental Meditation you know you are being gaslit! While we’re at it, let’s also inclusively add the Palestinians, muslims and every other false God into the mix and call it a “religion”. Yes, it’s a religion. A religion of fanatical zealots worshipping false gods. Lord, I pray for their souls to see the one true light of Jesus Christ as our Savior.
When will we see him deposed…?

They will continue to do these things because they know they will easily get away with them.
Look at Elpi and his “big gay baptism,” he received a slap on the hand, was called out by the Church of Greece, barred from Athos, yet he remains, not only as Archbishop but as the head of the Assembly of Bishops. How is this even possible?
I would love to be as optimistic as you Nick that his time is coming to an end, but since his tenure started here he has had disaster after disaster, with no end in sight, and no reprimand. I hate to say this but it seems as though he is here to stay.
And GOARCH will continue to swindle until there is no GOA left, which at this point is probably a decade off.
All the beautiful parishes that were built by Greek families will be sold off to pay the bills of the Archdiocese, and we will let it happen.
I hate to sound pessimistic because that’s not my usual nature, but I have seen zero evidence from the laity and especially from the clergy that they are actually fighting back. “What can I do?” is the phrase of the day from our priests.
Well, the whole of Christianity is undergoing tremendous crises now… We cannot be as restricted in our view when the Pope himself “blesses gay couples”… There is an eye of God, however that sees everything and all. Have no doubt.
The Pope is NOT part of Christianity since 1054 AC. The Protestant Congregations are NOT part of Christianity.

Frankly, I hear Hindu monks are more ascetic than Greek Orthodox Hierarchs and place greater emphasis on sexual purity to achieve “enlightenment”.
