EDITOR’S NOTE (Nick Stamatakis). It’s amazing to see the “teacher” of our community, Mr.Dimosthenes Triantafyllou display, at an age that many teachers are retired, such inspirational energy and patriotism, as few can show. The school of the Ascension Church of Fairview whuich he supervises celebrated EOKA Day, April 1st, the rise of our Greek-Cypriot brothers for Union/Enosis with Greece. With the help of the many Cypriots of NJ they managed to pass to the younger generations the true menaing of the day, the meaning of patriotism and our ethnic identity. The photos talk for themselves:

Congratulations to all.
Dr. Triantafillou is an institution in our Omogeneia for well over five decades.
He founded the St. Demetrios School in Astoria and set out a visionary blueprint that is quite impressive Sadly, it was never implemented by the mafia that took over, with the known results…
A few years ago, I was chatting with the late Dr. Constantine Flokas who wisely pointed out that if we had a couple more tireless Dr. Triantafillous, or if we followed his leadership, we would perform miracles. It was true then and it’s true now.
God bless Dr. Triantafillou and those who heed his advice. God bless the community that recalls our history and conveys it to all of us. Bravo!
Of course , the Church of the Ascension of Fairview…is called Greek Orthodox ..because it will always recall our History and convey it to all of us! Because, the Church of the Ascension was built on the foundation of non wealthy “Made in Greece Greek Orthodox Christians, not “Made in America Greeks”
and which they have maintained and preserved the family values and traditions of Greeks manifested in our Churches…and have passed on this culture for decades to the new generation of Greeks ! I should know.. I proudly can say.. I was a part of it!
