In a bipartisan press conference in front of the Saint Michael Cathedral in Kyiv, Republican Tom Kean Jr. discussed the importance of America’s role in the world, and the importance of standing with Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, in their fight against the interconnected forces that want to do them, and us, harm.
Since becoming Chair of the Subcommittee on Europe in the House Foreign Affairs Committee, I have fought to ensure that President Zelenskyy has the weapons necessary to defeat Vladimir Putin’s forces in Ukraine. The aid package recently signed into law by President Biden includes the REPO Act and identifies specific weaponry for transfer to Ukraine. Under the REPO Act, of which I am an original cosponsor, the United States can seize Russian sovereign assets, which can then be used in Ukrainian reconstruction efforts.
The law also mandates the transfer of 300 km ATACMS, which will allow Ukraine to target Russian assets in Russian-occupied Crimea. The underlying bill passed with a historic vote of 73%, and the Senate supported our House version with a 79% bipartisan majority. ( The dominant Protestant Evangelical Bi Partison house and Senate)
