As part of the NATO Public Forum, the Prime Minister gave an interview to Nadia Schadlow, a member of the Hudson Institute and former US Deputy National Security Advisor.
Commenting on the American woman’s report that Greece “has done an incredible amount for Ukraine. You are one of the leading states in providing missiles and ammunition to the Ukrainians,” Kyriakos Mitsotakis replied as follows (the translation from the Prime Minister’s official website):

Ομολογία Μητσοτάκη για ειδικό δικαστήριο: Κενά στην άμυνά μας γιατί στείλαμε όπλα στην Ουκρανία!
Σκάνδαλο πρώτου μεγέθους και εθνική μειοδοσία, αποτελεί η πλήρης επιβεβαίωση της αποδυνάμωσης των αμυντικών ικανοτήτων της Ελλάδας για χάρη της Ουκρανίας (κατ’ εντολή των ΗΠΑ βεβαίως-βεβαίως), όπως ομολόγησε χθες ανερυθρίαστα ο ίδιος ο Κυριάκος Μητσοτάκης από την Ουάσιγκτον, κάνοντας λόγο για «κενά» που έχουν δημιουργηθεί!
Στο πλαίσιο του NATO Public Forum, ο Πρωθυπουργός παραχώρησε συνέντευξη στη Nadia Schadlow, μέλος του Hudson Institute και πρώην Αναπληρώτρια Σύμβουλο Εθνικής Ασφαλείας των ΗΠΑ.
Σχολιάζοντας την αναφορά της Αμερικανίδας ότι η Ελλάδα «έχει κάνει απίστευτα πολλά για την Ουκρανία. Είστε ένα από τα κορυφαία κράτη στην παροχή πυραύλων και πυρομαχικών στους Ουκρανούς», ο Κυριάκος Μητσοτάκης απάντησε το εξής (η μετάφραση από την επίσημη ιστοσελίδα του Πρωθυπουργού):
«Ταυτόχρονα, όμως, πρέπει να εξετάσουμε τα κενά που έχει δημιουργήσει αυτό στις δικές μας αμυντικές ικανότητες. Όσο κι αν μιλάμε για εξελιγμένα συστήματα, πρέπει επίσης να βεβαιωθούμε ότι διαθέτουμε τα στοιχειώδη. Η Ουκρανία έδειξε πόσο σημαντικά είναι, για παράδειγμα, τα βλήματα 155 χιλιοστών και ότι σε έναν σύγχρονο πόλεμο δεν είναι όλα τόσο τεχνολογικά καθοδηγούμενα, όσο πολλοί πίστευαν. Να διασφαλίσουμε επίσης ότι θα εξορθολογήσουμε την παραγωγή, θα αυξήσουμε τα αποθέματά μας, ενώ ταυτόχρονα θα έχουμε την ικανότητα να στηρίξουμε την Ουκρανία, είναι μια πρόκληση στην οποία πρέπει να αντεπεξέλθουμε».

«Κύριε Μητσοτάκη, σας κατηγορώ για εσχάτη προδοσία»
Η πρωτοφανής ομολογία του Πρωθυπουργού, περιέργως δεν ξεσήκωσε την πολιτική θύελλα που θα έπρεπε και που αρμόζει σε μια τόσο σοβαρή υπόθεση.
Τα κόμματα της αντιπολίτευσης φαίνεται (μέχρι στιγμής) να έχουν χαθεί στην καλοκαιρινή ραστώνη, ενώ μόνο ο Πρόεδρος της Ελληνικής Λύσης Κυριάκος Βελόπουλος, έκανε μια «πύρινη» παρέμβαση στη Βουλή.
Ο κ.Βελόπουλος από το βήμα της Βουλής κατηγόρησε τον Κυριάκο Μητσοτάκη για «εσχάτη προδοσία»!
Σήμερα είναι μια ιστορική ημέρα. Κύριοι ενοχλήθηκα που κανείς από τα κόμματα της αντιπολίτευσης δεν κατάλαβε τι είπε ο πρωθυπουργός. Και ρωτώ πώς θα αποκαλούσατε έναν πρωθυπουργό που, σε συνέντευξή του, παραδέχθηκε ότι υπάρχουν κενά στην άμυνα της χώρας;
Λέω ακριβώς τι έγινε:
Η Πρώην αναπληρώτρια Σύμβουλος εθνικής ασφαλείας των ΗΠΑ Νάντια Σάντλοου, μιλώντας με τον κο Μητσοτάκη του είπε ότι: «η Ελλάδα έχει κάνει απίστευτα πολλά για την Ουκρανία. Είστε ένα από τα κορυφαία κράτη στην παροχή πυραύλων και πυρομαχικών στους Ουκρανούς».
Ο πρωθυπουργός, τότε, προέβη σε μια πρωτοφανή ομολογία λέγοντας: «Ταυτόχρονα, όμως, πρέπει να εξετάσουμε τα κενά, που έχει δημιουργήσει αυτό στις δικές μας αμυντικές ικανότητες».
Τι είπε ο πρωθυπουργός; Ότι στείλαμε πυραύλους και πυρομαχικά, αλλά δημιουργήσαμε κενά στην δική μας αμυντική ικανότητα. Σας θυμίζει κάτι αυτό; Αυτό θυμίζει τον Ιωαννίδη, που το 1974 απέσυρε την ελληνική μεραρχία από την Κύπρο.
Καταθέτω στα πρακτικά το κείμενο μαζί με το βίντεο, όπως είναι αναρτημένο στην ιστοσελίδα του πρωθυπουργού.
Γιατί ο κος Μητσοτάκης δεν είναι χαζός, δεν είναι ανόητος, είναι όμως δουλικός στα αμερικανικά συμφέροντα. Και ομολόγησε ότι αυτή η δουλοπρέπεια έχει δημιουργήσει κενά στην άμυνα της χώρας στο Αιγαίο.
Το περίεργο, δε, είναι ότι όποιος επιχείρησε να ανεβάσει τη συνέντευξη του πρωθυπουργού στο Facebook, τα βίντεο αμέσως κατέβαιναν. Βέβαια! Γιατί εσείς έχετε την ομάδα των hoaxes. Όσο όμως και αν θέλετε να βάζετε κουκούλα στις ειδήσεις, εμείς θα σας ξεκουκουλώνουμε!
Κύριε Μητσοτάκη, σας κατηγορώ για εσχάτη προδοσία. Κύριοι βουλευτές της ΝΔ, κύριοι υ πουργοί, όσο τον στηρίζετε είστε συναυτουργοί σε αυτή την προδοσία!
Θα κλείσω με ένα μήνυμα προς τους Έλληνες: εμείς δεν υπακούμε στους ξένους ούτε σε πρεσβείες. Εμείς βαδίζουμε στα βήματα του Καποδίστρια που είπε: «Η νίκη θα είναι δική μας, αν βασιλεύση εις την καρδίαν μας μόνο το αίσθημα το ελληνικό. Ο φιλήκοος των ξένων είναι προδότης».
«Χλιαρός» ο ΣΥΡΙΖΑ
Αντίδραση είχαμε και από τον ΣΥΡΙΖΑ, στο στυλ όμως του… εμείς τα λέγαμε!
Η δήλωση του Τομεάρχη Εθνικής Άμυνας Ευάγγελου Αποστολάκη για τις δηλώσεις του Πρωθυπουργού περί «κενών» στις αμυντικές ικανότητες της χώρας μας:
Περί «κενών» στις αμυντικές ικανότητες της χώρας, ως αποτέλεσμα της στήριξης στην Ουκρανία, έκανε λόγο ο Πρωθυπουργός, κ. Μητσοτάκης σε συνέντευξη που παραχώρησε στο πλαίσιο της Συνόδου Κορυφής του ΝΑΤΟ. Η δήλωση του Πρωθυπουργού είναι εξαιρετικά ανησυχητική, πλην όμως, έρχεται δυστυχώς να επιβεβαιώσει τις ανησυχίες και τις προειδοποιήσεις που εμείς, ο ΣΥΡΙΖΑ -Π.Σ., έχοντας την ευθύνη της αξιωματικής αντιπολίτευσης στη χώρα, είχαμε τονίσει σε κάθε δοθείσα ευκαιρία.
Σε ερωτήσεις και ομιλίες μου στη Βουλή είχα τονίσει ότι, δεν συμφωνούμε με την αποστολή οπλικών συστημάτων αλλά και ότι η οποιαδήποτε βοήθεια δοθεί στην Ουκρανία δεν θα πρέπει να αποβεί εις βάρος των αμυντικών ικανοτήτων της χώρας μας. Ως απάντηση είχαμε λάβει διαβεβαίωση ότι κάτι τέτοιο δεν θα συμβεί. Έρχεται τώρα ο Πρωθυπουργός της χώρας και μιλάει για «κενά» στην αμυντική θωράκιση. Επιπλέον αναφέρεται στην ανάγκη στήριξης της εγχώριας αμυντικής βιομηχανίας, χωρίς μέχρι τώρα να έχουν αναληφθεί πρωτοβουλίες προς αυτή τη κατεύθυνση. Μάλιστα, ενώ οι εξοπλιστικές δαπάνες ανέρχονται σε πολλά δισεκατομμύρια, ούτε ένα ευρώ δεν κατευθύνεται στην εγχώρια αμυντική βιομηχανία, παρά τις συνεχείς προτάσεις μας υπέρ της ανάγκης στήριξης της εγχώριας παραγωγής.
Η εθνική άμυνα είναι μια σοβαρή υπόθεση και πρέπει να αντιμετωπίζεται ως τέτοια, έχοντας μάλιστα της απαραίτητη διακομματική συναίνεση και συνεννόηση προς όφελος της χώρας.
Κατακραυγή και στο διαδίκτυο
Η ομολογία του Κυριάκου Μητσοτάκη προκάλεσε και διαδικτυακή κατακραυγή, με το Twitter (X) να «παίρνει φωτιά»:

Again, Velopoulos can pontificate all day, but he should have joined forces to bring up a non-confidence vote on Mitsotakis before that terrible LGBT law was passed…the train wreck in Tempi was “loudly rumored” to be between a passenger train and a freight train carrying highly explosive supplies of “classified nature” intended for use in the Ukraine…that detail could have been added to the reasons for a “non-confidence” vote as well…either way, for the past 2.5 years, it’s been announced multiple times by Greek and non-Greek official sources that “Greek military aid” was being sent to the Ukraine, with multiple newspaper headlines along the lines of “they are leaving our islands unfortified, and our munitions warehouses empty”…etc… The fact that Mitsotakis is “admitting this on TV” 2.5 years later is certainly quite disgusting, and the fact that the Greek people are “sleeping at the wheel” and continue to vote for New Democracy is even more disturbing, but Velopoulos remains merely a “barking dog on a short chain” with his “all talk and no action” tactics…
On a side note, there were some media reports the past several days about some Greek mercinary with the codename “Zeus” who was reportedly committing heinous war crimes against Russian POWs in the Ukraine…the Greek media has remained quite silent on the matter. Not sure what Velopoulos or Mitsotakis have to say about that detail…
In Greece the prime minister controls the legislative the executive the judiciary the press and tv so he behaves like a dictator.
Velopoulos suspects even the ballots on the elections are tampered with but he lacks 30 representatives that can demand an investigation of this matter.

Yes, Greece is in the hands of NATO and the EU. This is not always a pleasant prospect, but we must understand that to turn back from this arrangement now would be to invite another 1922-style catastrophe upon the Greek people.
Being so greatly outnumbered and outgunned by the Turks, Greece needs allies. It is unlikely that Russia will intervene to help Greece deal with likely future Turkish misdeeds. Greece has already burned its bridges with Russia and, in any event, Russia has its hands full. So, where could Greece find allies? They cannot be manufactured, after all. Realistically, those allies must be the nations of Europe, the United States, and Canada.
Have those allies disappointed Greece in the past? Of course they have. But to cast them off and go it alone is to invite a repeat of the diplomatic isolation that caused so much loss and suffering for the Greek people in 1922.
Nobody suggested that Greece change alliance in the middle of such a war and an international crisis. But when Mitsotakis, acting like a true traitor, empties the defense supplies of Greece to help Ukraine, we have to pause. Even more so, when he comes out as the megaphone of the corrupt warmongering West calling “Russia is the enemy”, and “We will defeat Russia” and all this. He could have avoided all this. The Russians understand that Greece is part of NATO and the West. But Greece should be the last country to be a leader in any anti-Russian effort. For a million reasons – first among them is that we have a common geopolitical enemy, Turkey. Even Israel refrained from acting openly anti-Russian, because they know that in Syria, just 200 miles from their borders the Russians have advanced weaponry. What id Mitsotakis going to do when Turkey, soon, changes alliances and gets the OK from the Russinas to invade the rest of Cyprus? Not to mention other possibilities…

Concerning Cyprus, it is unlikely that Greece, however equipped, can rush supplies to Cyprus in time to stop a sudden advance there by Turkey. The defense of Cyprus must depend on its own supplies and, of course, on its diplomacy. That diplomacy, for both Cyprus and Greece, means keeping in the good graces of countries that sometimes frustrate us.
