Yesterday, Minister of Citizen Protection Mr.Theodorikakos announced that the government would finish the 140-kilometer border wall that previous governments had started in the northern border with Turkey, along river Evros. Greece has no choice but to protect its borders against Erdogan’s government in Turkey, which uses the migrants from the Middle East, Asia, and Africa as a weapon against Greece and the whole of Europe.  It was about time, a few months before the next elections, for the treasonous Mitsotakis government to take action!!

EU nation to build fence on border with Türkiye

Greece is planning to build a new 140-km fence to cover its whole European border with neighboring Türkiye in an effort to contain the significant flows of illegal migrants, Minister of Citizen Protection Takis Theodorikakos has announced. Construction of the first 35-km span of the new fence is set to begin “immediately,” the official told the broadcaster SKAI on Saturday.

“It is a final decision of the government to create a 140-kilometer fence on the Evros [River],” Theodorikakos stated.

Greece and Türkiye share an approximately 200-km common border in Europe that runs primarily along the Evros River, yet there is a stretch of dry land between the two countries. Greece already has concrete and barbed wire barrier installed at over 40km of the border, namely along the span near the Turkish city of Edirne. The fence was originally erected in 2012 and was extended in 2021.

The Evros River on its own has not proven to be a sufficiently challenging obstacle for illegal migrants, Theodorikakos noted, with the eponymous province remaining a hotspot for irregular crossings. “In Evros, the Greek police, with their deployment, have prevented the illegal invasion of the country by 256,000 illegal immigrants,” the minister said without providing a time span for this “invasion.”

Over the past year, the EU has seen the highest level of illegal migration since the 2015-2016 migrant crisis. According to the latest figures by Frontex, the bloc’s border agency, some 308,000 “irregular entries” were detected across the external borders of the EU during the first 11 months of 2022, constituting a sharp 68% increase from the same period in 2021. The Western Balkan and Central Mediterranean routes have seen the most illegal migrant traffic over the past year, according to Frontex.

Η νέα επέκταση του φράχτη αφορά 35 χλμ. στον κεντρικό Έβρο

Tην επέκταση του φράχτη κατά μήκος όλης της μεθορίου στον Έβρο ανακοίνωσε μέσω του ΣΚΑΪ και της εκπομπής του Γιώργου Αυτιά ο υπουργός Προστασίας του Πολίτη Τάκης Θεοδωρικάκος.

Ο υπουργός τόνισε ότι «στον Έβρο, η Ελληνική αστυνομία με την παρουσία της, απέτρεψε την παράνομη εισβολή στη χώρα, 256.000 παρανόμων μεταναστών. Έχει αποφασίσει το ΚΥΣΕΑ και είναι ευθύνη του υπουργείου προστασίας του πολίτη να το υλοποιήσει, να κατασκευαστεί ο φράχτης σε όλο το μήκος του ποταμού Έβρου, δηλαδή στα σύνορα της Ελλάδας και της Ευρώπης με την Τουρκία. Είναι ένα συνολικό μήκος 140 χιλιόμετρα.

Όπως επισήμανε ο κ. Θεοδωρικάκος, «η άμεση απόφαση που υπάρχει είναι η κατασκευή των πρώτων 35 χιλιομέτρων στο κεντρικό σημείο, με προϋπολογισμό 100 εκατ. ευρώ, για το οποίο το υπουργείο προστασίας του πολίτη, σε συνεργασία με το υπουργείο Εθνικής Άμυνας, έχει ολοκληρώσει τη μελέτη και περιμένουμε την τυπική έγκριση του Υπ. Οικονομικών για να κάνουμε έναν γρήγορο και άμεσο διαγωνισμό».

Η νέα επέκταση 

• Η νέα επέκταση του φράχτη αφορά 35 χλμ. στον κεντρικό Έβρο, στις περιοχές ανάμεσα σε Ψαθάδες Διδυμότειχου και Κορνοφωλιά Σουφλίου. Πρόκειται για ένα χαρακτηρισμένο “κόκκινο σημείο”, γιατί ουσιαστικά τα μονοπάτια των διακινητών βρίσκονται από 400 μετρα μέχρι 1 χιλιόμετρο από την Εθνική Οδό, σε υψόμετρο που είναι πολύ δύσκολη η επέμβαση αστυνομίας και στρατού.
• Παράλληλα, έχουν προστεθεί  ήδη 11χλμ. από ισχυρό μεταλλικό κιγκλίδωμα που έχουν προστεθεί στον παλαιότερο φράχτη με αντιαρματική, αντιαναρριχητική και αντιπλημμυρική λειτουργία στις Καστανιές και στη Βύσσα.
• Νοτιότερα, υπάρχουν άλλα 28χλμ. στο πέταλο των Φερών.

Στόχος: Ακόμα 140 χλμ. φράχτη κατά μήκος του Έβρου για να «σφραγίσει» η περιοχή. 

O  κ. Θεοδωρικάκος τόνισε πως «η Ελλάδα δεν μπορεί να απειληθεί από κανέναν. Απορρίπτει με ψυχραιμία και απόλυτη αποφασιστικότητα τις προκλήσεις. Η τουρκική ηγεσία γνωρίζει ότι τα τελευταία 3,5 χρόνια με πρωθυπουργό τον Κυριάκο Μητσοτάκη, η πατρίδα μας έχει ενισχυθεί στρατηγικά, στρατιωτικά, είναι αξιοσέβαστη και κανείς μα κανείς δεν μπορεί να απειλήσει ούτε ένα χιλιοστό ελληνικής γης, αέρα ή θάλασσας».
