The Ecumenical Patriarch Mr. Bartholomew, on the 31st of last March, a Sunday on which Roman Catholics and Protestants celebrated Easter, expressed the wish that from the following year, 2025, a joint celebration of Easter and the Orthodox Christians would be established with them. He did so during his speech in Agioi Theodoroi of the Community of Vlagas of Constantinople. His wish raises a reasonable question since it was expressed at a time when the Orthodox Church, after centuries, was experiencing a deep schism within it. The wish for a joint celebration of Easter with the heterodox should be preceded by the effort to restore unity among the orthodox.
Mr. Bartholomew’s wish for the joint celebration of Easter with the heterodox is a continuation of discussions with the Pope and the World Council of Churches. A document on the intention of the Vatican and Phanar for the joint celebration of Easter is the article jointly written by the Phanar Greek Orthodox Metropolitan Dimitrios with the Vatican-based Roman Catholic Bishop of Nanterre-Mathieu (Rouge) in the widely circulated French newspaper Le Figaro on April 22, 2023.
In the article, the two ecclesiastical officials highlighted the next year, 2025, as an opportunity for joint celebration. They wrote that firstly, it is the 1700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Synod, during which the celebration of Easter was defined, and secondly, 2025 coincides with the common celebration of Easter. They also referred to the dialogue on the common celebration of Easter, which took place in Aleppo, Syria, in 2017 under the auspices of the essentially Protestant World Council of Churches.
It is noted that in the text of Aleppo, it is recognized that a decision for a joint celebration of Easter “would certainly cause disturbance to the Christians, who already have their scheduled calendar,” but also adds the opinion of the Protestants and the Phanar, that “it would constitute an extraordinary point of unity, truly beneficial for the peace of the whole world.” Of course, everyone who believes that the arrangement for a joint celebration of the Christian Easter will bring peace to the whole world is certainly hallucinating…
It is impressive that the Patriarch Mr. Bartholomew wants to proceed with a world-historical event (Note: the Orthodox have been celebrating Easter with this particular calculation for 1700 years) without convening a Pan-Orthodox Synod, without even discussing it with the Primates of the other Orthodox Churches. Will he go it alone? It can. His action will have the warm support of the Vatican, the Protestant-led World Council of Churches, the governments of the US, and its allies.
There is undoubtedly an immediate danger that the Fanar will become even more isolated among the Orthodox. The Ecumenical Patriarch was saddened by Primates’s prevailing coldness and absence during his recent presence in Sofia for the funeral procession of the deceased Patriarch of Bulgaria. Without the consent of the Orthodox Patriarchates and the Autocephalous Orthodox Churches, the unilateral promotion by the Lantern of the joint determination of Easter with the heterodox carries a serious risk of deepening the schism among the Orthodox, which arose because of Ukraine.
Decadent situations are caused in the Church when it mixes in politics and serves the geopolitics of the powerful of this world. Orthodox Christians in Ukraine, in their great majority, belong to the canonical Church, having communion with all the local Orthodox Churches and being under the canonical jurisdiction of the Moscow Patriarchate. Before the war between Russia and Ukraine broke out, the Phanar recognized a schismatic group of clergy as the autocephalous canonical Ukrainian Church. Mr. Bartholomew’s action geopolitically helped the propaganda to alienate Ukrainians from their Russian brothers and cultivate hatred towards them. It is noted that the action of the Patriarch was reinforced and warmly applauded by the USA and its allied countries.
Since then, there has been a schism in Orthodoxy. The schismatics of Ukraine have been recognized apart from Phanar only by the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Alexandria and the Greek Churches of Cyprus and Greece. The Moscow Patriarchate has suspended commemoration and communion with the Fanari and the other Greek churches. In Ukraine, after the invasion of Russia, those of the clergy and laity who remain in the regular Church, the one connected to the Moscow Patriarchate, suffer silent persecution. Oleksandr Kirilenko, a Ukrainian religious analyst close to the Zelenskyi government, in an article published on a Greek website closely linked to Fanari, admits that the draft Law of Ukraine banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (affiliated with the Moscow Patriarchate), which was approved by a Ukrainian parliamentary committee last March 5 “leaves many gaps and requires expert discussion on the mechanisms provided for in the document.” And the Ukrainian analyst adds the monstrous thing that the persecution for reasons of religious conscience “is a purely internal Ukrainian matter”! The view is reminiscent of regimes and practices that humanity wants and needs to forget. Regarding this situation and the persecution of the Orthodox Christians in Ukraine, it is sad that Patriarch Bartholomew did not express a single word of sympathy.
The Patriarch, during his three-day visit to Paris, was received by the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, on April 22, 2024, and, according to the authoritative newspaper La Croix, they discussed for more than an hour the Ukrainian, the position of Christians in the Near East (Note: Also in Turkey) and in the Middle East, the ecological problem, the interreligious dialogue and the life of the Orthodox Christian communities in France. The Roman Catholic newspaper notes that Mr. Bartholomew has condemned Russia’s war against Ukraine as “unjust”, but he has no authority to impose his views on other Orthodox Churches, “in a world Orthodox landscape that is very polarized”.
On the same day (22/4), Pat. Bartholomew visited the headquarters of the Assembly of the (Roman Catholic) Bishops of France (SEG), in whose chapel he prayed with its members and exchanged thoughts with them on various issues, including Ukraine and the common celebration of Easter, about which he has discussed and agreed with the Pope.
There were discussions and common prayer with the Roman Catholics and exchanges of views with the Presidents of France, Macron, and Ukraine Zelenskiy, but no discussion of Mr. Bartholomew with the Orthodox Prelates about the serious pastoral and social issues facing the Orthodox Christians. There is a freeze in their relations and an obvious lack of a common, fraternal path… This is the current situation at the level of the ecclesiastical summit, of the Orthodox Church.-

There is a technical misunderstanding mentioned above. We say “technical”, because the media have run with a certain narrative for a couple years now, and it’s real hard to untangle the original sources… Epiphanios has not been officially recognized by the Synods of Greece, Alexandria, Cyprus, but rather by a segment of their hierarchs, who followed unilateral actions of their primates, giving the semblance of a “Church approval”…thank God these primates are not the equivalent of a Pope. The day of the synodic “vote” in the Church of Greece actually devolved into a chaotic session, in which several hierarchs loudly disagreed, but in which Hieronymos claimed that he heard more voices “for” vs. “against”, and proceeded outside to read his prepared speech to the media outlets that were waiting for this staged announcement. In essence, a proper vote really never took place on that day. Hieronymos and other hierarchs proceeded to concelebrate with Epiphanios’ “hierarchs”, and this action solidified the media narrative, making the “technicality” that a proper vote never occurred on that day something “obsolete” and “not worthy of attention”…There are multiple bishops within each jurisdiction that will not concelebrate with the Ephiphanios gang…and per the Canons, you only need 3 bishops to continue a canonical Church…This is exactly why Moscow has formally severed ties with Constantinople, and not with the aforementioned…the Synod of Constantinople actually voted for the recognition of Epiphanios.
Either way, we have been hearing rumors for a few years now that “they are cooking something” behind the scenes to serve up in 2025 when the Paschal calendar coincides with the West…let’s see if the words of St. Kosmas Aitolos meant 2025… “Τό ποθούμενον θά έρθη όταν θαρθούν δύο πασχαλιές μαζί”, or if it meant 1912 when much of Northern Greece was liberated and the celebrations of Pascha and Evangelismos were on the same day (Julian Calendar)…we will soon find out.
No matter what, if these rumors manifest into reality after next year then, yes, we will end up with another schism…it will certainly be a schism, because there are already strong reactions (for both issues mentioned):

Wicked Shepards do wicked things.
A tragedy in the making!
I want to hear from the other hierarchs on this, especially the Patriarch of Third Rome.
Mr. Bartholomew clearly stopped being a spiritual leader long, long ago, when he sold his soul to the demons of the West, to compromise Orthodoxy by politicizing her for the benefit of Western leaders and his own laic popularity. Is he trying to win the Nobel Peace Prize or something? He should take note that such “prizes” and secular popularities do not impress the God of the Universe, whose main interest is Truth. Love without truth is fake love. Justice without truth is fake justice. Peace without truth is fake peace…and religion without truth is a sham. So, when you’re try to “unite” with something that does not have truth, you become a lie yourself. “A little leaven (like a sin or a lie) leavens the whole lump (makes everything a sin or a lie).”
First, you have to bring the misguided souls to Orthodoxy, to the Truth, teach them and help them embrace the true Christ, not a false understanding of Christ, and then, when they have repented (turned around) and converted to the True Faith, which is Orthodoxy, can THEY unite with YOU and not the other way around. Uniting with them while they are still deluded in their beliefs is a fake union, because there is no common essence, except the outward, superficial appearances of politeness and tolerance. This is not true union, and celebrating something, like Easter, on the same day does not accomplish a union. the Protestants and Roman Catholics already celebrate Easter on the same day. Are they united in a common faith? No. They are still fighting with each other and splintering off. So, what is Mr. Bartholomew hoping to accomplish, except perhaps to make a false name for himself?
A fake union might outwardly look “nice” like the “nice” house that is built upon the sand, but we all know what will happen to that house when the weather changes…the same thing will happen to Mr. Bartholomew and all those who follow him and his political agenda – because it certainly is not a spiritual agenda. I feel very sad for Mr. Bartholomew. It is clear that he lost his faith in Orthodoxy, since he does not missionize to the people he meets; he only looks for ways to compromise Orthodoxy more and more. This should not surprise us since he already declared that “the decisions of the Holy Synods are the walls of shame that need to be torn down.” Well, he is certainly trying to bring them all down, but he will not succeed. No one can defeat God. Lucifer tried and look what happened to him! But you can’t convince someone who doesn’t want to believe.
Please resign Mr. Bartholomew. You have made it crystal clear that you are NOT Orthodox, that you do NOT believe in the One, True God. Please resign before the house that you are building on the sand topples down and crushes you.
