Obviously, it slipped out, but… did it also slip past an entire mechanism of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs?
At the very least, the Foreign Minister’s statement that he is a “Philhellene” is… eye-catching. Thankfully, at least now he has clarified it for us — and maybe it’s a good opportunity for a golden visa, right here, right now!
“I hear simultaneously that I’m pro-Palestinian and that I’m pro-Israeli. The answer is clear: I am a Philhellene. And this stance of mine will not change,” Giorgos Gerapetritis declared meaningfully, speaking on a MEGA TV program — with the entire transcription mechanism of the Foreign Ministry failing to grasp what was being said.
Obviously, Giorgos Gerapetritis is “a Hellene,” clearly a mistake occurred — but could it be that the Minister was aiming deeper, for all of us uneducated folks?
Because, according to Plato… in antiquity, the term “Philhellene” also meant “patriot.” In that sense, it appears in Plato (Republic, 470e) and in Xenophon (Agesilaus, 7.4: “being a good Greek means being a Philhellene”). It also referred to foreigners who loved Greek culture or the Greeks themselves. Herodotus was the first to use the term for the Egyptian king Amasis. Amasis was generous toward the Greek cities: he offered dedications to Cyrene, Rhodes (Lindos), Samos, and to Sparta a linen breastplate, and he sealed an alliance with Cyrene by marrying a local princess. Finally, he contributed to the building of the temple of Apollo at Delphi.
Just a few notes — so we can learn a bit from our ancestors…

«Φιλέλληνας» δηλώνει ο Γιώργος Γεραπετρίτης
Βγάζει τουλάχιστον… μάτι, η δήλωση του ΥΠΕΞ ότι είναι «φιλέλληνας». Ευτυχώς όμως που έστω και τώρα μας το ξεκαθάρισε και ίσως είναι ευκαιρία για golden visa εδώ και τώρα!
«Ακούω ταυτόχρονα ότι είμαι φιλοπαλαιστίνιος και ότι είμαι φιλοϊσραηλινός. Η απάντηση είναι σαφής. Είμαι φιλέλληνας. Και η στάση μου αυτή δεν θα πάψει να υπάρχει», δήλωσε με νόημα ο Γιώργος Γεραπετρίτης, μιλώντας σε τηλεοπτική εκπομπή του MEGA, με την απομαγνητοφώνηση ενός ολόκληρου μηχανισμού του ΥΠΕΞ να μην αντιλαμβάνεται τι γράφει.
Προφανώς και ο Γιώργος Γεραπετρίτης είναι «φιλέλλην, προφανώς έγινε λάθος, αλλά μήπως ο υπουργός το πήγε πιο βαθιά για όλους εμάς τους απαίδευτους;
Διότι κατά τον Πλάτωνα… στην αρχαιότητα ο όρος «Φιλέλλην» σήμαινε και «πατριώτης». Με αυτή την έννοια συναντάται στον Πλάτωνα (Πολιτεία, 470 Ε) και στον Ξενοφώντα (Αγησίλαος, 7.4 «καλόν Έλληνα όντα φιλέλληνα είναι»). Επίσης αναφερόταν σε ξένους που αγαπούσαν τον ελληνικό πολιτισμό ή τους Έλληνες. Πρώτος ο Ηρόδοτος χρησιμοποίησε τον όρο για τον βασιλιά των Αιγυπτίων Άμασι. Ο Άμασις υπήρξε γενναιόδωρος προς τις Ελληνικές πόλεις: προσέφερε αφιερώματα στην Κυρήνη, τη Ρόδο, (Λίνδο), τη Σάμο, στη Σπάρτη ένα λινό θώρακα και με την Κυρήνη συνάπτοντας γάμο με μια ντόπια πριγκίπισσα. Τέλος συνέβαλε στο χτίσιμο του ναού του Απόλλωνα στους Δελφούς.
