Despite widespread excitement over the possible face-to-face meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin next week, Russia has not budged on its core position: No ceasefire without strategic guarantees. And so far, Washington has offered none.
According to multiple reports, Trump is expected to meet Putin as early as next week, with a potential trilateral summit including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to follow shortly thereafter. The White House confirmed that the meeting has been proposed by the Kremlin, and Trump has accepted in principle, though the location and exact date remain undisclosed.
Russia: No Ceasefire Without Strategic Guarantees
Following envoy Stephen Witkoff’s three-hour Moscow meeting with Putin, no ceasefire was discussed or agreed upon. As Kremlin advisor Yuri Ushakov stated bluntly:
“There were no concrete proposals, only an exchange of signals” .
“Moscow will assess the signals received and respond in due course.”
Even Trump’s own team admitted that Russia made no concessions. Witkoff told reporters:
“We came here to listen. The Russians are serious — but so are we” .
Trump, characteristically optimistic, claimed:
“Everyone agrees this war must come to a close,”
but avoided addressing the non-negotiable demands laid out by Russia.
What Russia Wants — and Why It’s Not Backing Down
Putin’s three strategic red lines have been consistent since the start of the war:
1. NATO Must Withdraw from Russian Borders
Russia insists on the removal of Western military infrastructure from Ukraine, Georgia, and all other bordering states. As Ushakov reiterated:
“There can be no security in Europe if Russia is denied security at its borders” .
2. Sanctions Must Be Lifted
The new U.S. administration threatens additional secondary sanctions this Friday, targeting energy trade and financial networks. From Russia’s perspective, sanctions are not leverage — they are acts of war.
3. $300 Billion in Frozen Assets Must Be Returned
Russia continues to demand the return of the $300+ billion in central bank reserves and investments frozen by the EU and G7 since 2022. Without restitution, no deal will be signed.
Trump–Putin Talks: Diplomacy or Theater?
While Western media describes the upcoming Trump–Putin summit as “historic,” the strategic calculus suggests Moscow is merely biding its time. Russia has gained leverage — militarily, diplomatically, and economically — and has little incentive to accept anything short of a complete geopolitical reset.
If Trump arrives at the negotiating table without offering:
A halt to NATO expansion,
A clear timeline for lifting sanctions, and
A mechanism to return seized Russian assets,
then this meeting, like so many before it, will be more optics than outcome.
Conclusion: Is this a peace negotiation?
This is not a peace negotiation — it’s Washington playing catch-up. The war continues because the West refuses to accept reality, to take the world as it is, clinging instead to the illusion of unipolar dominance.
Until the U.S. is ready to deal with Russia as an equal — with respect and reciprocity, there will be no ceasefire, no peace, and no victory.

celebrate The Olympic Games every four years. The most desirable location for Putin and Trump to meet with a Golden Stephani/laurel wreath bandana on their heads, should be Olympia Greece. After the mutual agreement is signed, to secure world peace, they should visit Delphi and make offerings to promise to preserve the planet, on the world stage for future generations, in order to be on the right side of history.
Number two, they should both review the accepted terms of the Baker/Reagan/Gorbachev Agreement upon the fall
of the Berlin Wall 1990-1991 and revise to secure formal peace. The mutual agreement to avoid future violence to diffuse the
MIC /NATO/USA aggressive foreign policy, that dangerously provokes to upset the balance of power.
