EDITOR’S NOTE (Nick Stamatakis). For Orthodox Christians who still take the dogmatic boundaries of the Church seriously, this statement is nothing short of scandalous. Patriarch Bartholomew’s open enthusiasm for “unity” with the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church—without any mention of repentance from the errors that historically divided Rome from Orthodoxy—looks less like genuine Orthodox ecumenism than a deliberate erosion of the Church’s confessional boundaries.
To speak casually of “shared witness” and “unity between the Churches” while passing over the profound theological disagreements separating Orthodoxy from communion with Rome is not pastoral courage; it is theological irresponsibility. The Church is not a diplomatic project in which centuries of doctrine can be negotiated away through fraternal greetings, carefully staged meetings, and sentimental language about common values.
Even more disturbing is the impression that Constantinople increasingly treats Orthodox ecclesiology as something flexible whenever geopolitical or ecumenical ambitions demand it. After the wounds already inflicted upon Orthodox unity in Ukraine, Patriarch Bartholomew now appears willing to move still further down a path that many faithful Orthodox Christians regard as betrayal of the faith entrusted to the bishops to preserve—not revise.
Unity is indeed a Christian imperative, but authentic unity cannot be manufactured by pretending that serious doctrinal divisions no longer matter. Unity without truth is not the unity of the Church. It is compromise dressed in ecclesiastical language.
If the Patriarchate of Constantinople truly seeks reconciliation, it should begin with clarity: What exactly is to be united, on what confession of faith, and at what theological cost? Until those questions are answered openly, declarations of this kind deserve not applause but the most serious scrutiny from every Orthodox Christian concerned for the integrity of the apostolic faith.

Patriarch Bartholomew: Our Church seeks unity with UGCC

The Patriarch of Constantinople said that his Church seeks unity with the UGCC.
During a meeting with UGCC representatives, Patriarch Bartholomew said that the Patriarchate of Constantinople seeks unity with the UGCC. This was reported by the UGCC press service.
The meeting, attended by UGCC cleric Ivan Stefurak, took place during the Ecumenical Patriarch’s visit to Rome.
During the conversation, the head of the Church of Constantinople recalled his meetings with Sviatoslav Shevchuk and asked that his sincere fraternal greetings be conveyed to him as a sign of the good relations between the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the UGCC.
According to Patriarch Bartholomew, these relations are based on ongoing dialogue, a shared witness to Christian values, and the pursuit of unity between the Churches.

Someone with decades of advancing the Uniate vision is now openly seeking Union with the Uniates….”how shocking”…
Like, what’s the difference…Bartholomew IS already a UNIATE!
BS Bart behaves like an hapless turtle. Someone needs to knock him off his feet and leave him on the ground, incapable of getting back on his feet.
He has clearly demonstrated he feels no shame!
