Director Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, The Odyssey, is facing a major backlash after his Helen of Troy star, Lupita Nyong’o, attacked the classical Greek poet Homer as a “sexist” during a press junket.
Nolan sparked controversy in the first place by casting the African actress as Helen of Troy in the famous Greek mythological tale, but Nyong’o has made matters worse with her comments after news broke of Nolan’s decision to feature Nyong’o as “The most beautiful woman in the world.”
Indeed, in one of her first interviews, Nyong’o admitted that despite being a graduate of Yale University, she had never even heard of The Odyssey before Nolan cast her in his film.
“I really had no idea what The Odyssey was,” she told Elle Magazine in May. “I was like, ‘Oh, snap, I don’t know the first thing about this.’ So it was a crash course. I picked up the books and read them immediately. I have this film to thank for my Greek mythological education.”
But her comments got worse when in a video of a press junket, Nyong’o was seen calling the author of the nearly 3,000-year-old tale a “sexist” for not featuring as many female characters in his poems and stories as she would like.
The backlash to her latest woke attack on one of the most famous Greek literary tales in history was swift.
One commenter noted that when Nyong’o said “Very little time in The Odyssey is spent in the perspective of a woman,” it was clear she didn’t know the story because the whole thing is written with the goddess Athena at its core.
“O illiterate founder of Greece, the goddess Athena (a female) drives the entire story from start to finish. Her fingerprints are on every page,” he wrote, adding, “The entire point of the story is that mortals, in spite of all their pride and greed, are the playthings of the gods and therefore must be humble and behave honorably or they will be punished. The male god Poseidon is the antagonist, and the hero is Athena, who repeatedly leads the otherwise helpless characters to resolution and peace.”
One person pointed out that the character of Penelope is a central figure in the epic tale and that when he is in Hades, Odysseus himself reviews heroic tales featuring Greek women.
Another social media user wondered why so many Hollywood actresses are working so hard to tank their own movies these days.
Many others agreed that Nyong’o is working overtime to destroy Nolan’s film before it even has its first showing.

I despise woke ideology as much when it comes from the right or the left. While Breitbart is known to be woke for the right, in this instance, their reporting is spot on. The only reason she was cast as Helen is because she is black. Talent? plenty of other actors possess talent in abundance. Its not as if she was the only one. So, if it wasn’t talent, her color is the only answer for her casting. The fact that she invoked modern thinking on womens’ role, is meant to create controversy and probably lure women to her side. I doubt that these actors are speaking off the cuff. They are scripted by Nolan, as to what to say, to promote the film.
I’ve read that Nolan wanted to create a buzz and controversy for free publicity on the film. Plus, it would burnish his credentials as a discoverer of talent, no matter the color. There are drawbacks to that strategy. It could backfire and keep enough people away to make it a financial disaster.
Where to begin? How about here: an Ivy League diploma is not worth the paper it’s printed on. Seriously? She went to Yale and never heard about Homer?
Sadly, I believe that to be true.
But let’s not let this snowflake take all the blame. Christopher Nolan one of Hollywood’s greatest directors, deserves to lose his livelihood and be reduced to eating out of dumpsters.
According to Christopher Nolan’s film The Odyssey, Ancient Greek’s were black.
Does this mean Greek Americans can now apply for African American slavery reparations? 🤣
Or was Nolan saying that the Ancient Greek gods were black, therefore black people should be considered gods … worthy of idol worship?
That won’t go too well with the church.
Nolan’s message is a bit confusing. 🤔
Let’s first watch the movie… Helleniscope has already assigned a member of our team to go watch and review the movie on the 17th. And this person is a specialist.
Are you familiar with the historical revisionist Martin Bernal?
Lots of articles online.
Here’s one of them:
THE “BLACK ATHENS” THEORY OF THE “WOKE AGENDA” THAT PAID FOR THE GREEK PUBLIC!
A reasonable question arises, why in the film “Troy”, with Brad Pitt, where all the protagonists were white and Helen was blonde with blue eyes, didn’t money “fall” from the Greek State? Is it only when the protagonists are black that we pay them?
To show what is usually hidden behind such “innocent” cinematic variations, one should recall the well-known “research” called “Black Athena.” “Black Athena” is a controversial trilogy of books (1987-2006) by political science professor Martin Bernal. He even argued that ancient Greek civilization has its roots in Africa (Egypt) and the Middle East, accusing the academic community of hiding Afro-Asiatic influences for racial and ideological reasons!
This work is not only not recognized as valid scientific research by the vast majority of historians, archaeologists and linguists (fortunately because our eyes have seen everything), but it is literally trash. Experts from various fields have written extensive studies, such as the collective publication “Black Athens Revised”, refuting his conclusions. They denounced the lack of objectivity and the distortion of historical facts. It is now recognized that his work was written with a political motive, attempting to challenge Eurocentrism and highlight … African contributions.
I am very familiar with Black Athena… This and many other similarly crappy works were trying to demolish the Greek Miracle of the Classical era with various biological arguments. Until a few years ago DNA studies proved that modern Greeks are biologically identical to their ancestors. An extreme example is DNA research in Lasithi, Crete, which proves that modern Lasithi residents are about 95% similar to ancient Minoans… That demolished the most basic argument of Bernal… and others before him. I was fortunate to know at Syony Brook University in the late 1980s one of the protagonists of the DNA studies, professor Robert Socal.. A true pioneer…
Guaranteed she’s told to spew psycho lefty rhetoric.
What can you expect from her unintelligent ilk?
This black lady who will receive a bunch of money because of Homer’s work, she called Homer a sexist!
I don’t know any race or any culture that likes ungrateful people…
And how you call somebody who exploits the work of a “sexist” in order to make money?

Donald Trump gave Amazon 30x the amount it took to make the Odyssey which cost 250 million dollars. Then Amazon laid off 30,000 employees.
