We learned with great joy a few days ago that the quadruple bypass operation that the President of the Hellenic American National Council (HANC), Mr. Vassilis Mataragas, underwent was successful and that he is recovering successfully. We spoke to him, and he feels great despite having to follow strict medical guidelines.
It was a great ordeal that almost had a great cost. But the love, support, and prayers of expatriates and Zakynthians (who stayed up all night praying) supported the President and helped him win this battle!
In such difficult times when some among us – and the time will come for each of us – face death, the actual value of life comes to the surface, which is none other than the love of family, friends, and compatriots. Nothing else counts, and whoever doesn’t understand this truth of life is not a happy man…
Get well soon, Mr. President! Soon, we are waiting for you to return to the frontline of the struggles of the Greek American Community in these difficult times for America, Greece, and the World—with the same competitiveness and passion, unselfish as always, having the common interests as a flag!

Καλή ανάρρωση στον Πρόεδρο του HANC Βασίλη Ματαράγκα! Σιδερένιος!

Με μεγάλη χαρά μάθαμε πριν λίγες μέρες ότι η εγχείρηση στην οποία υπεβλήθη ο Πρόεδρος του Ελληνοεμαρικανικού Εθνικού Συμβουλίου (HANC) κ.Βασίλης Ματαράγκας (τετραπλό bypass) ήταν επιτυχής και ο αγαπητός Πρόεδρος αναρρώνει με επιτυχία. Σιδερένιος!!
Ηταν μια μεγάλη δοκιμασία που λίγο έλειψε να έχει μεγάλο κόστος… Αλλά η αγάπη, η συμπαράσταση και οι προσευχές των ομογενών αλλά και των Ζακυνθινών (που έκαναν ολονυχτίες προσευχόμενοι) στήριξαν τον Πρόεδρο και τον βοήθησαν να ανακάμψει…
Σε τέτοιες δύσκολες ώρες όπου κάποιοι ανάμεσα μας – και θα έρθει η ώρα για τον καθένα μας – κοιτάζονται με τον θάνατο, έρχεται στην επιφάνεια η αληθινή αξία της ζωής που δεν είναι άλλη από την αγάπη της οικογένειας, των φίλων και των συμπατριωτών. Τίποτα άλλο δεν μετρά – και όποιος δεν το έχει καταλάβει είναι δυστυχισμένος…
Καλή ανάρρωση Πρόεδρε! Συντομα σε περιμένουμε να μπεις πάλι μπροστά στους αγώνες της Ομογένειας σε αυτές τις δύσκολες ώρες για την Αμερική, την Ελλάδα και την Οικουμένη! Με την ίδια αγωνιστικότητα και τον ίδιο πάθος! Χωρίς αναστολές και υποκρισίες με γνώμονα πάντοτε το κοινό συμφέρον!…
