68-year-old woman in critical condition after punching attack, robbery on church steps in Queens
JAMAICA HILLS, Queens (WABC) — A 68-year-old woman is in critical condition after becoming a victim in a brutal punching attack and robbery in Queens on Sunday.
Police say the attack happened just 8:30 a.m. at the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in front of 84-35 152 Street in Jamaica.
The victim was followed from behind and when she reached the top of the stairs, the suspect jumped in front of her and knocked her down so hard she went airborne.
The suspect was captured on surveillance camera.
EMS took the victim to Booth Memorial Hospital following the attack.
Head Priest Konstantinos Kalogridis said that the woman is awake and recovering.
“I visited her yesterday at the hospital. She was alert. She was conscious. I gave her, you know, a blessing, gave her holy communion and gave her a little prayer and an icon,” he said.
Meanwhile, the thief was able to get away with a cellphone, credit cards and $300 in cash before fleeing the scene in the victim’s 2006 Nissan Altima.
The suspect was described as 18-25 years old, 5’8″ and medium build. He was last seen wearing a red hooded sweatshirt under a black jacket, black pants, black face mask and black sneakers with red trim.

It is the traitors in our own Greek community that have enabled criminals and made our communities prone to these crimes. Who are the traitors you ask? Michael Giannaris and Andrew Gounardes-the two extreme leftwing radical state senators who along with the other communist democrats such as AOC and her like that have passed criminal friendly laws such as “bail reform” which allows criminals out of jail immediately without having to post bail or otherwise be kept in jail until trial. They have marched and supported “black lives matter” they have supported “defund the police” and the list goes on. Until people wake up from their stupidity and realize who is creating the problems in our communities-democrats- and vote these communists out, we will only have more and more of this happening until you won’t even be able to go out and buy a gallon of milk from your neighborhood supermarket without being attacked. Wake Up People! Stop voting for these traitors-and stop inviting them to our parades and honoring them! Honoring them for what?? For enabling criminals to murder our people and ruin our communities? Stop being selfish because you want favors from them! or because, “it’s ok they’re Greek”. Don’t you care about your community where you live? It makes me sick every time I see these people as an honored guest with the archbishop, or at the parade, or at a Greek association or even at a Greek church. Why are they there???
