He gave a speech at the American College of Greece (a great institution where I had the chance in the early 1980s to get my first taste of American higher education as a part-time student) and visited the Third Army Corps in Greece (please follow the link to newsbreak.gr for a great photo.) And yes, he stayed away from Vangelis Marinakis and his thugs in Piraeus – he was well informed about them before the NYC Greek Independence Parade, and this is why he did not participate. Did our so-called “leaders” – yes, those with the big mouths and the empty heads – learned the lesson? I doubt it…

The Commander of the US Military Forces in Greece
The Commander of the US Army Forces Command, General Andrew Poppas, was in Greece for an official visit, following the invitation of the Chief of the Army General Staff, Lieutenant General George Kostides .
During the meeting, which was held in an excellent atmosphere, the strengthening of ties between the two Armies was discussed through the exchange of views on issues of common interest and the search for new sectors and fields of cooperation.
As part of his visit, General Poppas met with the Inspector General of the Army – Deputy Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Andreas Koronakis.
Afterwards, he visited the Military Cadet School (MSS) in Vari, Attica, where he was informed about the School’s work and toured its facilities.
He also visited the headquarters of the Hellenic Army War College (HAWC) in Thessaloniki, where he was informed about the training provided by the School, toured its facilities and gave a speech to the students.
Afterwards, he paid a ceremonial visit to the headquarters of the 3rd Army Corps/NRDC-GR “ALEXANDER THE GREAT” in Thessaloniki, where he was welcomed by the Commander of the 1st Army/EU-OHQ “ACHILLES” Lieutenant General Stavros Papastathopoulos and the Commander of the 3rd Army Corps/NRDC-GR Lieutenant General Athanasios Garinis.
