The World Premiere of Kapodistrias in New York – This Weekend! UPDATED

UPDATES WEDNESDAY 7.00 PM The organizing committee will hold a press conference with Yiannis Smaragdis at 11 am Saturday at the Vista Hotel, 6th Floor, 27-05 39th Ave, Long Island City, NY 11101.  All members of the press are invited to attend.

There will be an OPEN TO ALL event on Sunday, November 30th, at 2 pm at the Federation of Hellenic Societies of Greater New York (STATHAKEION),  22-51 29th St, Long Island City, NY 11105. Yiannis Smaragdis will be there to greet and talk to our community.

ABOUT PARTICIPATING IN THE PREMIERE: Those who are already on our list, please make sure to arrive at the Museum of the Moving Image on Saturday, November 29, at 6.00 pm or earlier.  At 6.30, the theater doors will close, and no one will be allowed to enter after that. 

THERE WILL BE AN AWARD CEREMONY IN THE THEATER.

A RECEPTION IS TO FOLLOW THE SCREENING OF THE PREMIERE RIGHT OUTSIDE THE REDSTONE THEATER.  A series of significant announcements will be made.

As you may have heard, Helleniscope is coordinating the World Premiere of “Kapodistrias”, the latest film by Yiannis Smaragdis. Words cannot fully capture the significance of this film and its potential impact on the reawakening of Hellenism—a cause we all sincerely share.

For Yiannis Smaragdis and all of us who have supported this monumental project, what follows the premiere may prove even more critical than the event itself. We are preparing a series of initiatives inspired by Kapodistrias’ vision and legacy:

–  Bronze Statue of Kapodistrias in Hellenikon: Already completed, this statue will be installed in the central square of Hellenikon Municipality in the coming months. Marble Statue in Syntagma Square. A proposal has been submitted to install a marble statue of Kapodistrias in front of the Greek Parliament in Syntagma Square. Approval by the Parliament has already been given.

 

2026: “The Year of Kapodistrias” : An initiative by the Corfiot and other Eptanesian organizations to officially designate 2026 as a national and international celebration of Kapodistrias.

 

– Formation of an Informal “World Council of Hellenism” – This council will be founded on two guiding principles. 1) Organic independence from financial or political influence by the Greek State. 2) Organic independence from financial or administrative influence by the Church. While maintaining respectful collaboration with both the Greek State and the Church, the Council will function as an independent, collective body—initially as an informal forum—growing organically as trust and participation develop.

 

– Creation of a “Youth Forum”: This initiative will bring together prominent young Greek-Americans in their 20s, 30s, and early 40s—individuals engaged in Hellenic, social, and political issues both in the U.S. and in Greece—to discuss shared challenges and explore new forms of national organization and leadership.
