Unrepentant Bartholomew and Epiphanius “Celebrate” Their Coming Defeat…

What should have remained a solemn celebration of Epiphany was instead used by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and Metropolitan Epiphanius to project an unapologetically political message against Russia from within the church itself. Their post-liturgy remarks, marked by evident arrogance, reflected a profoundly misguided reading of reality—one that, critics argue, will be exposed as events on the ground in Ukraine will soon lead to the total defeat of the Ukrainian Army and will lead to the de facto solution of the ecclesiastical problem Bartholomew created by granting “Cacocephaly”.

Today, at the Phanar in Constantinople, the Patriarchal Church of St. George hosted the Epiphany Divine Liturgy, presided over by Pat. Bartholomew and concelebrated with Met. Epiphanius. The service, attended by clergy, faithful, and official delegations, concluded with the traditional rites of Theophany and was followed by public remarks delivered inside the church, drawing wide attention beyond ecclesiastical circles.

At the conclusion of the liturgy, the tone shifted from strictly liturgical to overtly political. In their post-service statements, Patriarch Bartholomew and Metropolitan Epiphanius used the occasion to deliver messages that went well beyond the feast itself.

Patriarch Bartholomew framed his remarks around themes of “freedom,” “justice,” and the moral responsibilities of Orthodoxy in times of conflict—language widely interpreted as a pointed critique of Moscow and the Russian Orthodox Church’s close alignment with the Russian state. His references to resisting the instrumentalization of faith and to rejecting ideologies that fuse religion with imperial power were understood as addressing Russia’s ecclesiastical stance in the current war. He still refuses to account for his own fallacies and mistakes today. He still refuses to accept responsibility for the violence that occurred in Ukraine, for which a senior diplomat of Greece warned him!!

Metropolitan Epiphanius spoke more directly. He described the war in Ukraine as not only a military confrontation but a spiritual and moral struggle, accusing church structures linked to Russia of providing religious justification for aggression. His remarks reinforced the view that the Ukrainian church question is inseparable from the broader geopolitical confrontation with Moscow. Very soon, however, the ecclesiastical problem will be de facto solved on the ground after the widely expected Russian total victory.

Together, the two leaders chose the symbolic setting of the church—and the obvious celebration of Theophany—to send coordinated political messages against Russia. It underscored how deeply the Ukrainian ecclesiastical dispute has become entangled with contemporary politics, voiced not only in diplomatic arenas but from within the sanctuary itself.
